View Full Version : MCA and Adrock don't like each other

For some reason, from watching recent concert footage or watching their recent interviews (TT5B) i get the feeling that MCA and Adrock don't like each other. I'm probably just making this all up in my head, but what do you guys think?

It's because Yauch had the gun and Horovitz had the brew. And he only had two choices of what he could do.
It wasn't a tough decision, though. And they worked it out.

Im pretty sure the only way you can stay friends with someone for 30 years is if you like them....

lol. :D
i doubt they'd be making music together anymore if they didn't get along. it's not like they need the money, or each other to make music for that matter.
i do admit, though, they seem to have an interesting relationship. i see more interaction between mike and the adams than adam squared.

The reason Adam, Adam, and Mike have lasted as a trio for 25 years is because they're friends. If they were simply band mates they would have split up a long time ago.

I think Adrock is slightly bitter in general.... and MCA is the least bitter of the three... so their is def a slight difference in personality. But I can't say I've seen anything to suggest they don't like each other.
I'd say those three are a perfect example of guys who have been tight friends for a long long time. I think it's great that they have never had a serious tiff in so many years...that I know of at least.:)

Totally true. They are in a bitter legal battle over the name "Adam" right now and who gets to use it on odd/even-numbered days.
They aren't speaking, which is why the new album is instrumental.

In any relationship over all these years there's bound to be the odd bit of friction. Adrock said in a recent ish interview that their longetivity is probably down to the fact they've taken long breaks here and there, as that way they definitely like being around one another when there's shit to do.
But I think it's obvious they're all tight friends, it's too long a period of time for there to be any serious rift. I don't think they'd be able to pull off some of their comedy banter, in interviews or otherwise, unless they were actually really good friends still. That's the impression I get on stage and in interviews anyway.
Long live the Beasties and their getting-alongness!

Watch Metallica's Some Kind of Monster documentary to see band members who dont get along!! I was shocked at what a bunch of head up their own arses fuck wads they've become!! Over a similar period of time as the BBoys have been together too.
The Beasties aint like that, no way!! They get on fine, they've clearly had a whole ton of fun down the years which has probably helped keep them down to earth & good friends. Plus Yauch is a budhist, surely he doesnt fall out with his closest friends!

Yeah i dont really see what H would have to be bitter about... there's nothing in general I can think of and I couldnt see him being bitter towards Yauch in any way. if he was bitter against him or any of the band members there would be no way in hell that the relationship could go on for this long. I know theres no way in hell I could have a friend that I secretley hated/held something against.

i dunno about horovitz, but i totally wouldn't mind being trapped in yauch's huge lobster claws, if you know what i mean. ;)
also, i have no doubt in my mind that they are all very good friends who like to be around each other, they make each other laugh and enjoy each other's company and making music together.

i dont think adrock is bitter, he just has too much energy and some of it is agressive energy
thats why he yells the hell out of himself on stage and cant sit still most of the time in interviews
the other two are way more chilled or just old :P

Didn't the two Adams bond over the buddhism thing for a while? Then little Adam fell of the tranquility wagon.
I think like all bands, at some point this becomes your job first and foremost, and you realize that a lot of people are employed by you. Seriously, there are a number of people who make a living by being a "friend of the Beasties". At some point, they're coworkers, and like any job you get tired of trying to collaborate and meet each others demands. You can see it with older bands with families who start working on regularly scheduled album releases. Where I think in the past they used to be joined at the hip anyway, today they mostly spend time together for the band.

i always thought mike was more down with the buddhist thing than horovitz, but then again i don't think there's any evidence anyway that supports the fact that either mike or adrock were into it for much more than the fact that it was important to yauch.

Well I'm not sure of bitter is the correct word but what I mean is that in some interviews he gives the the interviewer a bitter sort of attitude and has a bitter look on his face. Okay, so before I get the million responses saying that the entire band is/has been/always will be like that in every single interview they ever do. I know. I love it. I'm not dissing that he's "bitter" or that the band interviews that way.
I just think that adrock has an added little bitterness to him. In a few interview cases I've seen mike and adam have had to step in and friendly-up the interview because adrock has been such a hard interviewee (almost to the point of assholery - but not quite - a fine line remains)
Anyways - that's what I meant.
peace.

I noticed that too. For me it was when I was walking down the street and Christoper Cross "Ride the Wind" was playing and Ad Rock looked over at and said "Bitch, Turn this shit" Then Michael McDonald stepped in and added 13$ saying "I Keep forgetting". Then Mike D said Mic these nuts. That's when it got personal. So I started watching Law&Order w/Lenny Brisco and the hostility died down once a Hallmark channel came on

Last time they were on Much Music, Adrock seemed really bored by the whole thing. When the crowd was cheering he was giving sort of sarcastic sounding "Woo!"s into his microphone and didn't really answer any questions.

i just want to elaborate on my first post, the reason i felt that they don't like each other is from watching the mtv2 2$ bill show they did a couple yrs ago. I remember in one part Yauch was saying something to horovitz and he grabbed his arm and horovitz looked really annoyed and he said "No" very rudely. So i though that was weird, but i didn' think much of it. So just recently i rented AIFST, and i was getting the same vibes from horovitz mostly. I feel like its more him who doesn't like yauch, then yauch not likeing horovitz. its like the only reason they interact each other is for the band, they're not really friends. They're friends with Mike but not each other. I guess thats okay, alot of bands are like that too. but i never wanted the beasties to turn out that way.

05-29-2007, 01:54 PM
that's funny, i watched the entire $2 bill show last night and i don't remember that part. maybe because it was midnight. but i love that concert! :D
so yeah, maybe one time mike made a valentine for horovitz and yauch got mad, but they can always work things out if there's a problem, that's what friends do. ;)
there's still no doubt in my mind that those guys are all the best of friends who enjoy being around each other and making music together. they're a close group.

People, what if Adam & Adam read this?! I'm sure at first they'd just laugh at us pitiful idiots but then what if . . . late at night, it all seeps in?
Words are powerful. Ever so slowly the Adams grow wary, subconsciously questioning moods, looks, snack choices. They find themselves awake in the wee hours, re-analyzing decade-old lyrics for evidence of inter-Adam dissing. Paranoia strikes! Suddenly every fucking thing one does drives the other nuts and they don't know why!!! What started as idiotic fan banter isn't so funny anymore . . . and ultimately, this here thread is what BREAKS UP THE BAND?!

This thread has effected me. During live performances I can't help but notice that they're usually on opposite sides of the stage and don't really talk/interact much. In the Saskwatch videos I've seen Adrock will compliment Mike's drumming, Mark's playing, Alfredo's percussion, but never Yauch's bass playing. But then in interviews they still seem to play off each other and gab back and forth so I don't know.
