I just watched this show (it was originally broadcast in 2003). It reflected the "greatest" CDs from the start of MTV till then. I believe that MTV made a list and then viewers voted online. Here it is:

Here's my question: How is it that I've never heard of Live or this Throwing Copper CD?

How is Alanis at number 1? I dislike that album immensely and no way does it go over Nevermind.
Now there's something to ponder... Never liked Alannis.

I saw Live once at this showcase. Some of the worst crap I've seen. Midnight Oil - wanna-bees...

Those are the one's I have.

I don't care what anyone says, Appetite for Destruction I the greatest Rock N Roll album to come out in the past 25 years.

That video just about sums up all the reasons why I never, ever watch MTV1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10....all the way through to VH153.

That list of MTV2's 22 Greatest CD's pretty much wraps up any other reason.

It's an old list. I own 18 of those CDs (two in vinyl too). I'm highly suspicious of the list, because MTV clearly makes up the 2 minute clips for each one before the fans vote. If people voted today, no way would Alanis win.

Anyhow, I've never heard of that band Live or their CD. The CD apparently sold 8 million copies. I wouldn't have been listening to top 40 when it was released, but I did watch MTV occassionally throughout the 1990s. It's a mystery to me.

Bob, that song sounds vaguely familiar.

P.S. I did a cut and paste. I didn't personally misspell the name of the Beasties' CD. :rolleyes:

They were a big deal in the US in the late 1980s. We had quite a few earnest bands that did well. I think U2 opened the door to all of them. The Beds are Burning video was played on the original MTV all the time. I'll bet that a huge chunk of my friends who are my age only know about aboriginal people because of that video.

I bought their albums, but they were too earnest for me. I remember when the lead singer was on a national radio show years ago after he ran for office. I remember that people back then were saying that Bono should also run for office if he was so big on politics.
