um yes, it is still horse shit. i dont care if the big men of the tribes of papa new guinean vote for the award, the outcome is sheeeaat. its a player of the year award, giggs has not been the player of the year.
and its reaaaally stupid to have the voting done in january. it, along with the team of the year, should be voted on at the end of the year.
You were talking bias and then you mention your recommendation for the PFA who just happens to be from your team? Arshavin came in Jan. The voting was over in February. He couldn't have played more than 3 times.
Here's a little insight into how they vote.
Pederson (Blackburn) said about Giggs:
"I have always rated him highly and, even though he has had niggling injuries, he has always come back at a high - and sometimes higher - level."He scores important goals for Manchester United and I think he deserves it."He delivers every year - that deserves respect. Nemanja Vidic has been good, too, but I feel that Giggs has provided that little bit extra."He's also a nice person."
It's also noteworthy that unlike the previous two awards, there has been no outstanding player this season. So it's been down to the odd performance. I'd say Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Chelsea was one of those by Giggs.
Also I'd defo say his age is a big deal in the matter. Most wingers his age see their pace fizzle out and face a move infield. The welsh wizard was once known for his deadly dribbling, he now holds onto the ball and slices a defence in half with deft accuracy.
Usually this award is won by an attacking player, first on the team sheet, always on the score sheet. For once it was nice to see the players doff their (designer) caps to a nostalgic squad player who's still cutting the mustard, albeit in a different guise.

hah arsenal is definatly not my team. i respect the way they play football and their business but i hate the team. I am a milanista. so i really have no ties and could care less who wins it.
i just threw arshavin out there because hes done more in his 9 games than giggs has the whole season. although as we know the voting is in january; when arshavin had just came over; which again is stupid to me.
if anything vidic. man u went on that massive scoreless streak. 13 games no goals allowed. and van der star only had to make 20 saves. i put that on the shoulders of the big fella.

Sorry, got you mixed up with Roosta.
He may have done more in your eyes but none of it has been pivotal to Arsenals season.

It does matter who voted, the players have chosen to use their voice to recognise someone they hold in high regard, ask any manager and they will tell you he is the perfect example of what a professional footballer should be and he is someone younger players aspire to be.
It isnt the usual run of the mill award this year, i will give you that but as camo said no one has stood out this year. As far as the doing nothing comment is concerned, we have looked a different team when he's been involved and although he hasnt played oodles of games his contributions, particularly in europe have been invaluable. Still making and scoring vital goals and being a steadying, motivating influence on a comparitively young team.
Sure it was a surprise but surely you have to understand why its been done.

Gerrard or Lampard should've won it.
anyway, business as usual this weekend. Arshavin is like the anti-Ronaldo. seems to be such a fair player that he even tried to 'unwin' a penalty against Portsmouth even though he'd had one shout turned down earlier. good form.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger cashes in on Adebayor. he's a pretty coveted player across Europe and hopefully could provide the funds for some big name buys. centre back, defensive midfield, and a quality striker are all essential.
since we made the CL I think most of the others will stay. I hope Bendtner and Eboue are sold though. I hate them.
1-4 cannot be tolerated. changes are needed.

In the long run it may not turn out to be a bad week, it might be exactly what the club needed.
We need to strengthen the squad, this is and has been obvious for over 12 months now. This week proved it more than ever.
Diaby has to go. If he starts next season I will be severely dissapointed.
I'd sell Adebayor and use his cash else where. The immediate gaps that need filling are the exact same as last summer; a central defender and a defensive central midfielder so Cesc can do his thing.
Fantasy, best case scenario...we buy Flamini back... :)

^ Do none of you think that fabregas will be going? I reckon if you get the right offer he'll be off.
I think wenger has to get out of this mentality of buying cheaper younger players he can hone and get the chequebook out to buy a bit of proven quality. Arshavin has been outstanding and i think you need a couple more signings like that and the only way arsenal can do this is to sell adebayor, fabregas as well as some of the shit you have. just my opinion.

part of it was the money. but he knew he was not going to have the chance to win big time and be at such historical club unless he went to milan. why do you think kaka turned down $$$$ out the ass to stay with his family?
im sure flamini could have gotten more money had his agent contacted chelsea or real madrid or inter even.

but i doubt there is any sports person out there who supports manchester because of the glazers, or liverpool because of hicks and gellete. people dont support owners (yea you can give me the indirectly bs but im not buying that). they support teams and players.
i support milan because of maldini, baggio, baresi, leonardo, baggio, weah, boban, pirlo, gattuso, kaka, pippo, pato, nesta, donadoni, albertini, van basten, ect.

whatever, it is highly probable that after the Italian match fixing scandal in 2006 it was Berlusconi's influence that not only saved his team from harsher punishment, but also had most of it rescinded. ie, being reinstated to the ridiculously lucrative Champions League for the next season. a tournament which they would go on to win.
just being involved in corrupting the league is bad enough, but then getting a softened sentence because of your Don? I call bullshit on that. your description of the organisation as a 'family' seems rather apt.
I have little respect for such traditions and for the trophies that support such myths. going 49 games unbeaten without being the PM's pet, that's what tradition is made out of.

if i would forced to bet, i would wager on the side of berlusconi using his influence to help milan out during the calciopoli scandal. im neither naive or such a ridiculous homer where i would fail to acknowledged that. but like i said i cant do anything except enjoy the beautiful football milan plays.
side note, milans 91-92 serie A campaign wasnt too shabby either.

So anyway... one bunch of curry-loving, non shirt-wearing cunts had beaten another bunch of curry-loving, non shirt-wearing cunts. Shame it wasn't a draw - it'll be funny if The Baggies survive and send three North East clubs doon. Can't see it happening though when they have to play Liverpool.
Also, having the chance to win the league before the Scousers kick a ball is a glorious opportunity. Hopefully you here Gunners fans won't mind too much if we take a point off you on the way (y)

your ground is an architectural disaster
fans are all meat headed, fat, half naked morons who know nothing about football, not the best and most loyal in the league (a laughable notion). so what if a lot of you turn up every week? there's a large catchment area and nothing else to do in newcastle.
1 win in 7 games is not a good managerial record, shearer isn't the messiah
beating middlesbrough at home is not particularly impressive
you'll never be successful with 11 geordies on the pitch and all geordie staff. let it go you cunts

Checkyoprez - you should care what your chairman gets upto, it can affect your club and plenty of fans dont support man u anymore because of the glazers. FACT.
newcastle wont go down, unfortunately, shearer will be hailed as a god, cue more seasons of disappointment where he wont achieve anything but still be hailed as the greatest manager by the fans and they wont have learned a thing from the scare of relegation.
Win tonight against wigan and again against arsenal and hopefully west brom beat liverpool anyway to rub it in a bit.

most of their big guns wont want to stay down there. combinded sales should reach about that.
if they are sold for what they are worth and not just to get rid of them.
martins is worth 15 million himself. that leaves 35 between the rest. there has to be atleast 10 guys on that team that would average out to being worth 3.5 million each.

if they are sold for what they are worth and not just to get rid of them.
martins is worth 15 million himself.
they will be sold at a loss to get them off the payroll cos players like owen and viduka are on about £50k a week with no relegation clauses which means if they stay they still have to play it and they have already lost cash by going down. its up to clubs to decide if they are worth it and if they dont newcastle are stuck with them and their wages. this is part of what left leeds in the shit. they had players like barmby who was injured when they went down and they couldnt play him but had to pay massive wages.
not many players playing in relegated clubs get bought for what they are worth, particularly strikers cos relegation usually means they havent scored enough goals which will make other clubs wary of paying the selling clubs valuation.

it all depends on whether any manager thinks he is worth the gamble or whether they think he might be part of the reason newcastle performed poorly - relegated team= shit players or unconfident players. he might have been worth that a few years ago but a combination of getting older, not scoring goals and playing for a championship team desperate to get him off the payroll will mean a considerably cheaper price.
I think the Liverpool fans summed it up perfectly when they chanted at Shearer "You should have stayed on the telly."
Four points out of twenty four I think was his record. Three of those were against Middlesbrough, and that was like some kind of wheelchair boxing match.
Shearer, Joe Kinnear, Kevin Keegan. It's like the Newcastle board have got a 95-96 Merlin Sticker album out to pick their manager, and an old edition of Championship Manager to pick which players to buy. Ever since they sacked Bobby Robson the club have deserved everything that has come their way. He got them up to third if I recall correctly, and then a few bad games and they show him the door because of some fat shirtless drunk Geordies.

I guess it'll be Ribery to United. replacing the pretty boy with the pirate rat. he's not the most picturesque, but he'll do the job.
speaking of Frenchmen, Yoann Gourcuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZoHBlsMe5I) is clearly too good to play for Bordeaux. he recently signed for Bordeaux for 15million euros, but some EPL team should take him for upwards of 20. he's still only 22, Ligue 1 Player of the Year, and infinitely marketable.

I'm no fan, but no player is bigger than Man Utd football club. I think he was probably promised an end of season move to Real months ago. perhaps it was responsible for his slight change in attitude around mid-season. he was awful in the beginning.
we'll see what Ferguson does with the cash, he's not really known to be a wizard in the transfer market.

Oh I disagree. It's true that Veron, Djemba Djemba, Nani are pretty poor signings but everyone likes to fail fergie in the signings dept. It's as common as folk hating united but I think this will make you rethink:
Schmeichel, Gary Pallister, Rooney, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Van der Sar, Keane, Rio Ferdinand, Teddy Sheringham, Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes.
Then there was this one:
Eric Cantona.

lets see this list then. granted he has had a few stinkers but fergie's main strength has been bringing the kids thru, the amount of players that cost us nowt and went on to be legends is pretty big
Nobody has mentioned Stam, Yorke and solskjaer and that shit won us the treble.
Whay can't I include the big money buys? Fair enough, they aren't as shrewd a purchases as say Keano and The King but they count none the less.
Can't believe I forgot old Captain dependable  My bad.
Also lets add Evra.
Yeah he has bought some stinkers:
Massimo Taibi - remembered for letting Matt Le Tissier's daisy-cutter through his legs.
Mike Duxbury - played in the centre and at right-back and somehow earned 10 England caps.
Mal Donaghy - big, strong Irishman often described as "versatile" as he was equally uncomfortable at centre-half or left-back.
Karel Poborsky - signed for United after scoring a stunning lobbed goal in Euro 96. Then failed miserably to settle in the north west.
Eric Djemba-Djemba - big-money flop who Alex Ferguson finally offloaded to Aston Villa in January, for £2million less than he bought him for.
Juan Veron - huge disappointment after signing for £28.1million from Lazio. Fergie sold him to Chelsea for £15m two years later.
Jordi Cruyff - the name got United fans on the edge of their seats. Sadly he was not fit to tie his dad Johan's bootlaces.
Diego Forlan - cost £7.5million from Independiente then took 27 games to net for his new club. Left for Villareal after 17 goals in 97 games.
I don't blame Fergie. I just blame them not being able to hack it in the prem.

Whay can't I include the big money buys? Fair enough, they aren't as shrewd a purchases as say Keano and The King but they count none the less.

because they arent that shrewd, they were no brainers really. both rio and wayne had just had cracking england tournament performances as had carrick and we got the big bucks out and no one else could touch us. I was thinking of players that were a surprise or good bargains. in case of wayne and berbatov it was actually other clubs bidding that spurred us into buying them so i dont think it was a case of fergie being shrewd in the transfer market.
oh and you cant argue with forlans record in the prem but he has gone on to be spanish league top scorer a few times, he was just unlucky.
dont forget ralph milne, viv anderson and william prunier. stinkers

Sure I can. Forlan was utter shite!

that money is obscene.
Think of it this way..you can pick up Newcastle FOOTBALL CLUB for 100 million. But Ronaldo went for 80.
Where the fuck is Real getting this money?
I'm no fan of hyperbole, but this could be the end of football. It must be the only industry wildly out of sync with the rest of the world economy.
I dunno. Arsenal don't have a hope amongst these clubs. But I'm OK with that now. We arn't the property (yet) of some cunt who knows nothing about football.

indeed, although i have heard that their tv rights deal means they get £150 milll a season or summat, apparently thats whats been funding their transfers for a while but i dont know a lot about it. I imagine players and instalments will be involved in this deal. I dont think its resolved yet. he has to agree terms yet and where agents are concerned you never know

well, it shouldnt matter by then because if this (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/2476901/Ronaldo-scores-with-Paris-Hilton-in-LA-night-club.html) is going to escalate then he'll be giving her half by then. married for 3 months and then messy divorce. you heard it here first:rolleyes::D
it is probably just a stunt tho.
