When Bronson dropped Bird On A Wire as his encore in London back in December I just stopped dancing and leaned on the barrier. I don't condone that shit. Action noticed and looked kinda hurt... I told him don't worry bro I still love you.

He is part of the problem in terms of the majority of people thinking rap is dumb, ignorant, shitty music with no real cultural roots.

His beats suck donkey cock.

I've never heard him drop what could be described as a decent bar... quote some?

Riff has had some sick beats handed to him. Nice nice beats.

People think rap is dumb, ignorant, shitty music, because like yourself right here, they are judgmental and care too much about the way someone else looks or off or just hearing one thing. just like some people i know that say the beastie boys suck because all they know is fight for your right and intergalactic, when they are much more than that.

hes part of what is pushing rap forward imo. the rap game is saturated with the same old bullsht. there are very few new artists that come out these days that are worth anything, and thats because so much of it has been done before then and has done much better. Thats what makes Bronson so good, hes on his own shit. ALL these dudes fuck with Riff for a reason.

people who think rap shitty have thought and will continue to think it regardless of riff. for the select few that think that BECAUSE of riff, they are judging a book by its cover.

don't go listen to those on some bullshit labtop speakers. give them their proper listens if your going to talk head about it.

if you listen to all of those with an open mind you'll find 1. those beats are all dope and 2. that hes saying some shit that makes you think twice and rewind that shit. hes not the basic rap format that people have been trying to recreate (unsuccessfully for the most part). hes on his own level.

the hate he gets is ironic, he gets hated on for the way he looks and how he comes across, which in the rap game mostly populated by african americans who had to face the same shit for so many years. now because hes on his own shit and hes different he gets hated on. it would be one thing if he was just playing a character or joking on shit, but what you see is who he is.

First one I went to listen to he's just shouting "chain wetter than a pool" over some Sega Master System type backing track... not for me.

And I've already heard Larry Bird, Versace Python and Hot Shots Part Deux a few times. I just don't get it man. The beats that aren't absolutely terrible are just OK, nothing more.

And his appearance/persona is kinda charming. If he had talent it would set him apart from the crop nicely.

checkyourprez
08-02-2013, 03:52 AM
yeah the first two were def trap beats. after that they vary.

the only thing i can say about him (without seeming more like i stan that i already am, i realize this) is that in the beginning i did kinda think of him as a joke. like who is the guy kidding. some stuff was catchy. but the more i listened to it the more i dug it. yeah there are some bad songs, but hes putting them out at a prolific rate in the last year, like 90 tracks hes put out. plus he is definitely improved from his early stuff.

basically don't not give him a chance because you might think hes a joke or whatever, hes just doing his own shit. world would be a better place if their were less followers and more trendsetters ya know what i mean.

Lex Diamonds
08-02-2013, 04:22 AM
I can respect that. If he ever releases something I like then I'll admit it, too. For now though he's setting trends that I'd rather just weren't there.

some good talk in here. I have heard a handful of Riff Raff tracks and i dont really get it. The old fart in me thinks its just so removed from what i think hip hop should be but i suppose thats because i am an old fart, it just feels contrived rather than natural.

sorry crunk at a festival on my street and duh riff got me. kinda tech'noey beat.

"Carpal tunnel cars and tunnels, the summer cold, tundra
Be prepared to bundle stomach crunches and lunges
Lunches in dungeons, thunder from down under, disgruntle
Longevity, lunar eclipses, gypsy style travel
Trapezoid travel bags, terrified tandems
Can't fathom my phenom, my python venomous,
Dennis the menace dimensions
Ignorant Lima beans the size of time machines
We diced on ice on devices made by Nike, night lights
Made from carbon.
Copy Swiss rockets, my pitches, side of lockets of necklace
Of orphans eating porridge outside of the queen's fortress
Who can afford portions but refuse to purchase
Soul components for the young and unfortunate"

obtuse angle is a dope song. not for bumping in the whip. more for doing some drugs and fucking with glow sticks or some shit.

but thats riff, you can't put him in a box like that.

Time is a fucking awesome song, but you wouldn't bump that in the whip either. same thing with electric shark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDLQYdvEMlE) they're good songs, just different.

i dont think he looks at himself in those terms. im sure he has confidence in his style (which is no doubt all his own). he just does him tho.

in some interview where the host was on some reverse racism and going at him for how he looked he was just kinda like this is why i dont mess with humans. (paraphrasing) but basically he was like im about making money, girls, drugs, and having fun.

like if your not with that or want to hate take it elsewhere basically, life is too short for all that in his, and my opinion.

The SAAAB STORIES stuff was a bit disappointing considering it was him and Harry Fraud, two of my favorite artists atm, it wasn't bad at all, just didn't live up to the hype (my own hype I suppose). He has much better work out there in my opinion, Blue Chips is a must listen.

I think I'm going to try and catch the 2 High 2 Die tour in Saratoga, its a friday so I should be able to make it down.

Micodin

Strictly 4 My Jeeps was the best song off of Saaab Stories because it was that NYC rap shit. That wavy shit Fraud does works well with French but with Bronson it gets boring after a couple joints.

Bronson has classic records with Tommy Mas, Party Supplies, Alchemist and even Static Selektah. If he never works with Fraud again I'd be happy. I prefer listening to Action ride on breakbeats and flipped samples than the hollow shit Fraud makes.

I've seen Bronson twice and he's great. I haven't had a chance to see Danny Brown yet so I'm amped. My current two favorite rappers on the same bill. I'll be at the Philly show for sure and maybe the Boston show because it'll be on my friends birthday.

It's weird to imagine that some people are hearing Saaab Stories as their first experience of Bronson. It just doesn't do him or his style any justice at all.

Micodin
08-09-2013, 08:07 AM
It's mostly Vice's fault. It was supposed to be a free LP like his other one producer projects and then the label got involved because of the buzz Jeeps was getting. Vice wouldn't clear the samples and shortened it to a EP.

The entire project as a whole was probably pretty dope. But when label heads get involved that usually fucks things up.

Hopefully the OG version of Saab Stories (without the extra fucking a) leaks at some point.

hence my quotations. it was alright but everyone he named dropped in that song minus pusha t, and i guess big krit arent even really that good of rappers. they are all mainstream no less.

even if he was going that route and wanted to go head hunting go at Jay or Wayne.

but dudes like bronson, roc marcy etc are lightyears ahead rapping. kids good, but kids head is getting big imo.

bounce it ft. wale and trey songz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgSH3LPfo6g) lead single, kinda has that vibe, but its catchy

smokin rolling ft. pimp C (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TidpFbBqGU)

wax (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS4skhEj020) uses the i get high sample from the styles p song from back in the day.

Big Sean put out a new album last week. He is certainly is one of the new age of rappers, but one I can actually stand. Unique voice helps with that, and as Guru said, its mostly the voice.

Toyota Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jdj5kKZZCg) this beat is real dope

Fire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOXp8dV_vCs) one of the singles. more radio friendly, catchy song.

First Chain ft. Nas and Kid Cudi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRnedmmp-84)

Switch up ft. Common (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eQ4zzJv120)

and of course the Control song with Jay Elec and Kendrick, where Kendrick puts all commercial rappers on notice is also on the album.

speaking of party supplies he put out a good album (Tough Love) recently, hes not a hip hop producer by trade. which blows my mind he laced bronson with such heat for blue chips. so these aren't hiphop that im about to post but it is good 80s sounding snything, electro, poppy type stuff.

the rick ross stuff, yo gotti types that i post i know are not the most lyrical and can put out some bad stuff. but in the end music is just like movies if you are entertained by it then why not just allow yourself to enjoy it for what it is.

Napoleon dynamite and the godfather are very different movies and invoke different feelings but they are both good in their own ways. i dont have to compare Napolean to the godfather, i can just enjoy them both. no different than with two rappers who dont have much in common besides both being rappers.

Madlib and Freddie Gibbs news (http://www.rappcats.com/freddie-gibbs-madlib-deeper/)

Madlib is obvi a legend and I fux with Freddie Gibbs.

I like what I'm hearing. The two are putting out an album together, the guests look insane. With Madlibs beats, which you know are always on point, and the guests, this looks very promising...

Piñata is scheduled for February 4, 2014 on Madlib Invazion. The album will feature Raekwon, Scarface, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Joey Bada$$, Ab Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech of Flatbush Zombies, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester the Saint, G-Wiz.

wow.

Looks like Madlib will also be in Europe for a couple dates the next 2 months. Go see him if you can.

i dunno if its just me, but scratching is making a real comeback at the mo. have noticed a few tracks recently where its a more prominent part of the beat/track as the hook. i maybe talking bollocks.

Also, can someone point me in the direction of where you get a lot of this stuff, is it just a case of going on you tube and knowing about the artists or are there websites that tip you off on this stuff?

The problem with Pimpire (I can't believe I Just typed that) and almost all of Roc's shit is that it's that you get the same old same old every record. The formula never changes. Every song has a soul sample loop and the same tempo.

It just gets boring to me. I cherry picked a couple of songs off it and put it in my playlist but I can't listen to the entire record front to back. Compare that to a Blue Chips 2 where you have (in my opinion) creativity going on. Different tempos, odd choices for samples, all kinds of crazy shit.

I think Roc is nice with it. But, he's still sitting the pine until his formula changes up a little bit.

Sorry CYP, not feeling it. From the interview I read he had a lot of features on this LP to showcase his production. I applaud the fact he produced the entire album. I'd love for him to drop the instrumentals for this record. But it's too busy of LP for me to get my head around. Two tracks with Knowledge the Pirate? Maffew Ragazino? Come on, son. Your rolodex has to be better than that.

I fuck with 4,5,6, (feat. Action Bronson) and Trying to Come Up (feat. Boldy James)

Action verse was cool.

I saw Jody's album got pushed back. He gave some reasons on twitter, but I wonder if it's cause it sucks? The couple of tracks he has released recently were sub par. How to Be the Man, the track with Debbie, and the other one from last week were not his best. The third one really sucked.

I wonder if they didn't like the feedback on the tracks and are goin back to the drawing board?

I bet 2 stacks that Neon Icon does Krayshawn numbers its first week.

He's a funny character, but I don't want to bump his shit on the commute to work or in the house. Too many better choices out there.

i think you're really selling him short dog. like he legit throws creative bars together and a lot of the production he gets is good.

the hologram panda album is legit nice front to back. obviously some songs being better than others.

i don't look at him like a rapper, that needs to do things a certain way or he can't be taken seriously. i see him just as an entertainer. the music hes making is enjoyable.

The beat on that is nice, but there is 1 verse! I'm getting sick of that formula from him. 1 long intro chorus, 1 short verse, 1 break, long outro chorus.

And please keep "lobster tail" out of all future bars.

yeah, i was surprised at only the one verse, and the placement. maybe if it was in the middle of the song it makes it come off better but regardless thats something i would listen to again.

i like that he does his own hooks and they come off good as opposed to eminem who does his own hooks and they come off pretty shitty usually.

i will also concede he does have some repeating lines in his raps, lobster tail, candy paint, bring out the rice, versace anything, some others. but again it doesn't bother me.

To each his own. I'm good. I won't even cop his shit on Pirate Bay. My time is limited and I just can't fit in everything.

I'm over all this Versace swag rap bullshit. I can't relate. I could give a shit about iced out chains, sneakers, cars, molly, etc.

I recently just listened to Mac Miller's new shit because my homeboy was trying to put me on. Now, that guy can rap. He murders that Clams Casino joint.

Anyways, I'm prob just old and set in my ways. I enjoyed some or Mr. RaFF's old shit, some of the Three Loco shit, the old Bronson colabs. The new over produced shit I'm not feeling.

I still think he won't sell over 50 stacks in the first week.

Steady rotation right now is...

Step Brothers, Bronson, Schoolboy Q, and my own shit (shameless self promoting).

Anyhoo, I love you fucks.

I can't listen to Blue Chips 2 anymore; I think I over-indulged when it came out (...for about 3 months) then I saw the tour and now I feel like that chapter's done. I have been finding myself going back to Bon Appetit more and more... I think some of the shit off there is his most creative lyrically. This track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNsK3tQ1-1U) alone is better than Saaab Stories and Well Done put together.

Micodin
06-09-2014, 01:05 PM
I took a break from Blue Chips 2 after the tour and was on the Mac Miller, Earl, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, Pusha T, and some old Clipse wave for a while.

I don't fuck with Well-Done or Saab Stories much. Even Bronson has gone on record not liking Saab. Something to do with the label not willing to clear a bunch of the samples and asking for more radio tunes i.e.: The Rockers. Then they failed on promoting it.

I think the Blue Chips series is where he's at his comfort level now a days. I heard Party Supplies has a bunch of beats on Mr. Wonderful.

Dr. Lecter is classic status tho.

Personally I like the remix (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pne-f8TZ0co) better.

Co-sign, it's a great record. To me it's one of his more personal songs even though he keeps the content ridiculous. That chorus is ill.

The beat is fucking huge! I can't wait to hear the sonics of this record. Easy Rider and Actin Crazy sound nothing like each other. But both are great records. He rarely raps on wack beats. This record will be HUGE!

I agree! I listened to it on blast in the car on the way to dinner last night. Can't wait for this album. Is there a definitive date?

New A$AP album is pretty decent. The two album closers Everyday (https://youtu.be/UtZBA1bVbcs) (dat Rod Stewart sample) and Back Home (https://youtu.be/mGPUWwXDD6U) (with mighty Mos) are the highlights for me- looks like they wanted the LP to end on a strong note.

Alchemist's new beat tape Israeli Salad (http://www.okayplayer.com/news/alchemist-israeli-salad-instrumental-lp-mp3.html) is super nice too. Inspired by a trip to Israel 4 years ago and only just surfacing now, it's an atmospheric, polished reminder that Alchemist is one of the greatest to ever produce hip-hop music.

If you haven't already, listen to the Badbadnotgood x Ghostface album Sour Soul (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI5rbMDrL3I). I went to see them perform live together a couple weeks ago and Ghost fits the lounge band leader, blues/jazz frontman role perfectly. The Canadian band backed him exxcellently on a trip through his whole back catalogue and even tackled tracks like Shimmy Shimmy Ya, Kick In The Door and The World Is Yours while Ghost did his best NYC greats karaoke.

Although it came out the same time as Mr Wonderful, Earl (https://youtu.be/O1HjpJ1BHso)'s new album got totally slept on here. Thought I should mention it as he is one of, if not the greatest poetic lyricist in hip-hop right now.

I agree with sleeping on his album. I copped it the day it dropped. Listened to it on the way home from NYC to Maine about 4 times. Haven't been back to it since.

L$D is fave track off of ALLA. I agree about Everyday. Shit it tight.

I've been mostly listening to Jamie xx and Hudson Mowhake's new LP's.

I'm looking forward to Vince Staples debut LP a lot.

Vince is literally the only person on the XXL Freshmen cover that I'm aware of and listen to. Does that mean I'm old now? Album will be nice regardless.

L$D is a big track. Definitely going for that Gambino, Weeknd, Frank vibe with that one. In fact, the more I listen to it the more I think ALLA is a perfect impression/compilation of all the styles out in hip-hop right now seen through Rocky's eyes. And he makes them all really, really mysoginistic.

To the point it turns me off sometimes.

Loving the new Vince Staples tunes. Meek has some heat out right now as well.

Anyone following the Meek and Drake back and forth?

I thought Back to Back was the strongest so far.

Round-up:

Drake killed Meek, Popa Wu embarrassed himself, Gangrene & Mick Jenkins released dope shit, Dre dropped flames, the NWA movie completely rewrote their history and Sean P Da God died which is absolutely devastating.
