I have a new netbook but do not want to pay for an internet security package. In the past I have used AVG and Spybot together which seems OK. Does anyone have any tips for a good free security program or combination of programs?

Microsoft Security Essentials and Threatfire are what I use. They appear to be doing the job and seem to have a minimal system footprint

my aunt builds computers and she recommends Avast. I have it, but I don't really know if it's working or anything since it hasn't captured any viruses. I don't do a whole lot of downloading though.

Thanks for the suggestions. The netbook is actually a gift for my wife, she is not that techy and is familiar with XP, so I dont think she would want Ubuntu. I have used Avast before, with no obvious problems.
As she wont be doing much downloading either, I think this is probably the way to go. I was wondering if anyone uses multiple programs together, ie if they work better or worse (or not at all) in combination with each other?
