Did you really just say that? Clearly you haven't heard Netty's Girl.
This is a fucking great tune. One of my favorite things to do is look for those rare gems that the beasties have clearly been influenced by. It's educational.

they play this on the oldies channel all the time around here. when i was younger my brain kind of melded this song and netty's girl together and i thought that nettys girls was a cover of this for years and years before i sorted it out that they were actually just two songs with similar vibes.

Both blow. I don't give a fuck about any sacred cows, I'll call a spade a spade.

Netty's Girl kind of blows, but that's what makes it work. This song though, "Hey There Lonely Girl" is pretty damn good and I can see why Beastie Boys thought it'd be funny to do a version of it. But to each his own.

Classic song! Gotta keep it in perspective though, Mike D was stoned out of his mind in that Netty's Girl video, as was Adrock through pretty much the entire Check Your Head era.
I like to search out the rare gems too. About a yr ago some dude put the record on ebay that the Beasties got the "and the wine was delicious" sample from. I had always wondered where they got it.

I wouldnt say "influenced". that would be mean all thier music would be because of this song. the way the beasties did it was purely a parody.

Everybody knows that song, look at wikipedia, it was huge hit, went to #2 billboard.
It's an oldies classic. If you ever hang out with a cali latino crowd (born-here latinos) they are known to be playing this stuff, especially in the car, cruising around. It's more of a west coast thing than east coast.
