Not really sure, a lot of them were more into texting/talking on their phones than the show.

.............I don't know if this counts as a "tribute"; but it's worth a listen anyway.

New song by the Italian singer/songwriter and rapper Lorenzo Cherubini, (better known by the moniker Jovanotti (http://www.examiner.com/topic/jovanotti/articles)) called New York For Life, in which he gushes over his favourite American metropolis, with shout-outs to Grandmaster Flash and our own beastly boys. <3

jovanotti is a HUGE beasties fan :p

I know it's probably (definitely?) not the case, but in my head I'm thinking D'Angelo was paying respect to MCA by including the 'Shadrach Meshach Abednego" refrain during 'Chicken Grease' in his Philly show last week (about 8:30 in):

I think that was in the song he recorded. But it's been a while since I've listened to that album.

Nah it's not in Chicken Grease (or on Voodoo at all) from what I recall.

That was funny, till I got the Beastie part. That timeline confirms all good things were slowly dying out being replaced by garbage!

This tribute isn't exclusively for Yauch, but I didn't know where else to put it.

I should not be getting teary eyed still just from hearing their names mentioned. I'm worrying me.

Turntable-collective C2C performing a tribute to MCA at the Lowlands festival:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJOuWXJdJpk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJOuWXJdJpk) (starts around 2:44)

Thanks to my friend Susanne in the Netherlands, who sent me the link to this vid.

She and her friends were there and they knew C2C were going to do a tribute to Yauch. So, to enjoy it in style, they got some pannenkoeken and ate them on the grass while enjoying the tunes.

"..........when I'm in Holland......."

“Like a Version” is a Friday-morning segment on the Australian radio station Triple J, where artists play live versions of some of their favourite songs.

Aussie hip hop group the Hilltop Hoods paid tribute to MCA with their version of “So What’cha Want”. The interview at the start is pretty great (0:13).

Interesting to see a two-way division of the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY8vf4RWNE4&feature=plcp

IMO they fucken nailed it. Didn’t attempt to replicate/mimic the original (impossible feat); just stuck to their own style. I thought it worked.
((y) vs (n) on YouTube would suggest I’m not alone.)

Also – the rounded Australia pronunciation of “can’t”……. @ 1:46 ie……..“you cahrn’t front on THAT”………....….made me grin. :D :D :D <3

so maybe a lot of you guys have seen this now but i just found and watched it for the first time yesterday - awesome tribute video to MCA —

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBVGoj9xEoA&list=FLHP9N2UJJKBDu0_ZVV4uoZA&index=1&feature=plpp_video

and also, check out this new video of this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98EDRJLsK1A&feature=plcp), pretty distinct style from the Beasties, but he's singing at a lot of different spots in NYC, including a couple of the new MCA murals - check 1:50 and 3:02 for starters also the Confucius statue in Chinatown and happy dancing kids at 3:45 - there's a line or two in here that remind me of "why do politicians always want to fight?" from "we got the" from to the 5 boroughs

also i think Yauch and the guys would like the statue of Gandhi from Union Square Park in NYC (1:38)

interesting stuff

Aw, well thankyou for that feedback. Made my day!

The music I used in the video is a homemade mix of a few Beastie tracks. I did it in a hurry on the day he died and it’s pretty dodgy as a result. Not my best work. I wish I could’ve done better but……..under the circumstances……..whatcha gonna do?

The original track is called “A Year And A Day”. Yauch recorded it in Koreatown, LA, wearing a tricked out jet pilot’s helmet. True story. If you want a copy, call Paul's Boutique and ask for Janice. Their number is 718-498-1043. ;-)

I used the instrumental version, too, which you can find here http://www.beastiemixes.com/acappellas.php on the sensational Beastiemixes.com (http://beastiemixes.com/index.php) website, hosted by the legend himself, Silence7. He’s charming, he’s dashing………he’s rental car bashing.

BTW – it is very nice to meet you! I love to see a new username………….Beastiefans unite, aiite?

This has its own thread but it deserves to be here, too:

The Lives They Lived (New York Times)
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/12/30/magazine/the-lives-they-lived-2012.html?view=Adam_Yauch&ref=magazine

Accompanying video:

The Music They Made: A Sampling of Songs From Artists Who Died in 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4Sf-RRpDLs

Our man’s at 2:31.

Wait til you hear the lyric they selected for him. I guess it’s an obvious choice, but it’s yet to be matched in terms of impact. I must have listened to it a million times but it still has the power to make my heart stop.

MCA is the youngest on the list (bar one). Ouch.

From the article:

"Even after he was given a diagnosis of parotid-gland cancer three years ago, the idea of a world without Ad-Rock and Mike D passing the mic to Yauch seemed inconceivable. It shouldn’t have been. Rock history — human history, really — is full of evidence that we’re not here long, that we should get our houses in order and do something of value with our time. The lesson of Yauch’s life was that it is possible to make that happen."

How do you make a link for a special view on Google Maps?
If you go down to Shoreditch in London, up to Curtain Road (https://maps.google.se/maps/ms?msid=214126710175703742760.0004d8609186ecdfe399 f&msa=0&ll=51.523838,-0.080402&spn=0.001063,0.002524) towards Christina Street you'll see an awesome mural! It goes around the corner on three streets, with Jimi Hendrix signing a contract with devil and other awesome stuff!

No links guys, I just wanted to mention that I wore an MCA tribute shirt that I have all day, went on a long walk (3 miles, not too shabby if I say so myself) and looked at a wedding venue with my fiancé. Though we're not full-on Buddhists, we've decided to send out swatches of fabric with our invites and have our friends and families write blessings for our marriage on them, so we can assemble all of them into our own prayer flag of sorts. Also, we've decided to incorporate lotus flowers into our decor. Adam is the one that drove me to investigate Buddhism to begin with, one of many things he brought to my attention that would eventually elevate my mental plain.

After i post this, I'm going to meditate for 20 minutes like I pledged on Facebook, and then pack it in. What did you all do to remember Adam, however big or small that it was?

I've been meaning to do this mix for a while and started to put it together last year but when Adam Yauch passed away it didn't feel right, didn't want it to look like I was jumping on the bandwagon. Wanted to get it out in time for what would've been his 49th birthday on the 5th of August but unfortunately time was against me, but nonetheless this is my tribute to MCA and of course the other two Beasties the King Ad-Rock and M I K E to the D you go to see him and pay a fee.

It was hard to try and limit myself to the material I'd use but I had to have a cut off at some point to stop myself going insane trying to break down the tracklist. So I went for the era that meant the most to me personally, from 86 to 98 ( Licensed to Ill through Hello Nasty ) . Even then I've still missed some stuff off I would've liked to include, but these are "some" of my favourite B-Boys tunes.

So without foither ado, please enjoy 100 minutes of Hip Hop, Funk and Hardcore Punk. (Hey)Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Beastie Boys...

One of the local breweries here in SF brewed a session stout in honor of MCA called the MCA stout two years ago. They just won sliver at the Great American Beer Festival for that beer. Way to go 21st Amendment.

I threw together a little something from Cymple Man's - RIP MCA mixed up with only MCA's verses from Lee Majors come again, basically into one verse. It's short, but just loved CM's whole tribute chorus and words. Enjoy

MCA FOREVER.

Lee Majors Come Again (RIP MCA Remix) (http://tindeck.com/listen/qboz)
Should be on BeastieMixes very soon

love that song

Thanks for posting. I think Sarah (pwr2mca) was at that show. She's from that part of the world and said PE put on a great tribute to him.

so I never did anything personally, so here it is. Hopefully better late than never.

I know this is a disgrace, but I wanted to make this , so I did it. I had 3 hours, maybe a little more. I wanted to keep working on it, but it will never be the original and its bed time.

Happy new year.

I made this for my kids, and I was thinking of you too.

take some time out just to celebrate
a dope dope man (with) his mic, (bass) and a record crate...
pay my respects, (i'm sure) you can all relate...
Oscilloscope's live... and still awesome to date

an old school icon ahead of his time...
always coming true showing us the divine/ make ya see if ya blind
thanks to him (we'll find) the right rhythm and rhyme
what things stand for, heart, soul and mind

he made sense so well
climbed to the top then he rang the bell
so so much that he wanted to tell
he/ we can rest in peace, his thoughts were from heaven, not hell

what else can i say during this spell
Beasties are second to none, yeah you know this well
(thanks for the inspiration, it's guided us well)
...

Hornblower did it
and he saw that it was good
kept true to the spirit
esp in the hood

train a Tibetan Olympian
take the gold home
shed light on the issues
ish you can't condone
...

being good is jsut being smart
if you think it's right, it must be good at heart

Backed by the Dalai Lama 'cause the man had clout
Ya heard
Ch-check it out don't pout
Hornblower will dry your eyes and put Ricola in your mouth

Love this man
But he will take your house
Spin it all around just like Mighty, Mighty...Mouse
If you're leanin too much he'll even you out
The man manufactured props like he invented stout

Backed the Dalai Lama cuz in peace he had no doubt
Clocking in again because he came to work it out
Lovin him forever, the man they called Mr. Adam "MCA" Yauch

M.C.A. Said….

When there is a song and M.C.A. is rapping, is it fair to say he said whatever he is rapping about?

Like is it fair to say, M.C.A. said “ the disrespect of women has got to through” in this case, he probably said it and rapped it.

My point is M.C.A. said we had a president we did not elect. DO you think M.C.A. is qualified to say that? Did he mean it? Maybe he was joking? I would love to know that GW cheated in FL, and I assume he did. But I largely credit my belief to this line. As the real knowledge is outside my sphere of knowledge.

Could be taken as losing the popular vote, but yeah there is a pretty reasonable line of thinking that Florida was basically stolen. There were staged riots to force recounts to stop and it’s likely W would have lost it they finished.

with all the craziness of the past election we quickly forget what happened in 00 and how far that went. or maybe i just didn't care and wasn't paying attention.

regardless i always took that line as a reference to the pop vote and whatever happened in good ol' FL
