makeup question
i've tried to figure this out myself wit the powers of the internets, but i cant really answer my question.
i HAAAAAAAATE lip gloss. some people can pull it off. i feel like on me it looks like "hey im 13 and i cant wear real makeup yet but my mom said lip gloss is ok!" i look pretty dang young and super glossy lips dont help the case any (not that im complaining, eventually looking way young is gonna be awesome) anyways, i would like to be able to put some color on my lips. very... unnoticable color. basically, i have unusually pale lips and i'd like them to look like more healthy lips, not like HEY LOOK AT ME IVE GOT LIPSTICK ON. i wear very very very little if any makeup, so i need something subtle. any reccomnedations? i see stuff that says its "sheer" but it will also say something like "shiney" or "glossy"... i know there are lipsticks that have more of a matte finish, and ive not really had any lipstick experience but i feel like that would make a big smudgy red mess all over my face. lip stains sound like they might be what im looking for, but again, thats something ive never had any experience with and that seems like it might make for some pretty intense color. im also wondering what would happen if you just colored your lips with a lip pencil, is that doable? |

Re: makeup question
like you, i hate shit on my lips... NO ONE is going to be able to suggest anything to you that will actually work -if they do, please PM me...
basically, i try to emphasize my eyes to compensate to my lack of lip flare, and am quite happy with it... i prefer cherry chapstick to keeping my lips soft and moist (i hate that word!)...plus, the cherry adds a little bit of red... i am ancient, so trust me...

Re: makeup question
hi im the same way. i dont know if this IS a lip stain, but sometimes i use Maxfactor "Lipfinity" that comes in a tube and you apply it with a spongy brush type of thing, and then you put sheer stuff that comes with it over it. pick a medium pinkish color, but only dab a teeny tiny amount and then rub it in so its not like an intense amount of color at all. it looks natural, and the sheer gloss that goes over it isnt the gross gooey stuff, its just vaugely shiney. and you can barely feel its there. http://shinymedia.headshift.com/kiss..._lipfinity.jpg

Re: makeup question
yeah. i dunno. i figure its worth a shot. id like to try a bunch of different things, but makeup is fucking expensive, so i dont want to just go BUY a bunch of things without really knowing what im doing.
makeup counters/stores kind of intimidate me. i was in sephora the other day, and the lady was very nice and helpful, and she did some makeup on me, but she put on some suuuuuper shiny lipgloss, and i told her i didnt like it, and she seemed kinda... i dunno. like she thought i was an idiot. she didnt SAY i was an idiot, but thats how i felt. also she said something like "aw i remember when my sister and i were teenagers and got to start wearing makeup for the first time!" i was kinda too embarrassed to tell her that i was 21 |

Re: makeup question
i think it has to do with how you can take stuff on your lips...
i, personally, purse my lips over and over until whatever it is that i put on my lips is off of them... without even meaning to... if you are not like that, then you have hope...

Re: makeup question
i have a lipstick in a sort of cranberry colour and i dab it on my lips and let it sink in and then i put lip gloss over that. so essentially i am staining my lips, but with a lipstick yeah.

Re: makeup question
hi there -- you need a tinted lip balm. no make-up feel, no goo, moisturizes and remains.
this stuff is what i use when i don't want to try too hard or look dead. it's all homemade by this lady in wicker park . . . or for easier access at any drug store, u can just get some burt's bees with tint. personally i'm not a fan of the menthol and the shimmer in burt's, but it's a staple most of my friends love, 20's - 30's.

Re: makeup question
I hate really noticeable color on my lips, so I use L'Oreal Glam Shine in Sand (I think) - it's a nude lipcolor with a hint of shine, makes them look good without looking like you pasted high-gloss shit on your lips.
Don't ever, ever color you lips with a pencil if you want less intense color - lip pencils will give you a matt lip which is infinitely harder to pull off than a moderately glossed lip. You can try a lip balm with a hint of color, too. I had one that had a hint of pink, worked a treat. At the moment I'm also using Stuf. Lip Jelly which is essentially clear, and b/c it's a jelly as opposed to a gloss it's not as shiny, more natural looking & moisturising. Smells awesome too. |

Re: makeup question
I buy so much lipgloss but really I hardly ever wear it because it doesnt last very long
Im all upons lips stains. I use them on my lips and my cheeks and try one thats more berry than the pure red to begin with, the color will look more natural. good revlon brand http://www.revlon.com/ProductCatalog...x?ProductID=33 you can also try benetint. but its fucking expensive.

Re: makeup question
i LOVE me some lip gloss! so much so that i have this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/razzmat...n/photostream/ i would suggest that burt's bees tinted chapstick. it's an all natural product. i think they use oils and wax to make it. it has a VERY light tint and does not feel incredibly thick. oh i LOVE me some thick lip gloss. i needa make a trip to MAC. |

Re: makeup question
i've loved every burts bees product i've ever tried, but for some reason the tinted balm i felt like would be shimmery so i never tried it. i'll be sure to pick some of that up and give it a go.
i'm also gonna look into some of the lipsticks you guys reccomended and will probably get one of those. i'm gonna have to write this stuff down before i go to the store. ... i need the printable version |

Re: makeup question
I don't know that I agree with that advice. Sometimes if I want a very subtle bit of lip colour, I will colour them with a bit of lip pencil, then top that off with a bit of lip balm. I find that works quite well, and lasts a long time.

Re: makeup question
I don't like the look where the lip liner is some really different color than the lipstick.
But then, I don't like to really see makeup. I like it when makeup accentuates what's there. Either that, or just no makeup at all.

Re: makeup question
This stuff kicks ass.
I buy it at ye olde walmart. * it wears off after a few hours * its only noticeable if you know its already there * its tasty * your only out $6 if you don't like * it comes a variety of shades (I aways wear "glow" because it is the closest to my natural color) |

Re: makeup question
i swear by this stuff, been using it for years. i get it in sweet violet. i guess it's not the cheapest but it lasts for ever.
it's like lipstick lite, so it gives you lips a sheer colour and feels lovely to apply. go and try some this weekend! in my experience, matte often means staining your lips and drying the skin. also a lot of lipsticks have a horrible smell to them. bleugh. |

Either way, lip pencils and subtlety don't seem to go hand in hand to me - I've just never seen it done right outside of a magazine. |

Dunno. It looks very ghetto to me. I think girls with makeup sometimes are like boys who strain to grow their mustaches. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Wait until you can wield your power wisely.

Re: makeup question
errrybody thinks i love that song b/c of my license plate. little do they know, it's a PULP song and i consider myself a glossie (a mega pulp fan). i had a guy lean into my car once and say "UNGH you fine. is it poppin'?" i was CLUELESS. i drove away quickly and he barely got his head out of my window. how rude! |
