"HIV hasn't gone away"
HIV hasn't gone away
Time to face the facts... World AIDS day poster - Pop-up window (150kb)Welcome to World AIDS Day - the international day of action on HIV and AIDS which takes place every year on 1 December. This year in the UK, World AIDS Day is about reminding us all that HIV is an issue for everyone. Thousands of new cases of HIV are still being diagnosed in the UK each year and the only way we can stop it spreading is by creating a more AIDS Aware society in which everyone takes action. The stories on our site (just click on the images above) are from real people who are taking action. This may be as simple as learning more about HIV, attending a World AIDS Day event or practicing safer sex... but no matter how small or large their contribution, they are all making a difference. We want to hear why HIV is an issue for you and what you are doing about it (we can even suggest ways for you to get involved if that helps!) Just send us your thoughts and you might see your face appearing on our site. You can show your support for World AIDS Day by wearing the Virtual Red Ribbon online. Thanks to generous support from our sponsors, Man Around, you can now support World AIDS Day 2004 just by treating yourself to a holiday! Watch the Community Channel on 1 December - the first UK TV channel to broadcast non stop 24-hour HIV awareness programmes on World AIDS Day in partnership with the National AIDS Trust! NAT is also grateful to our other sponsors Immunace and Uviclean. http://www.worldaidsday.org/

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
no,
gays give it to each other through risky sex practices heterosexuals give it to each other through sleeping around people give it to each other through drug use, etc and then there are the innocent victims that result from the above groups why is we are to feel "compassion" etc for those with aids, yet people who get simple herpes, non fatal diseases, etc from the exact same actions do not deserve the same "compassion"? newsflash...theres a simple way to not get aids. find a partner and stick with them for the rest of your life. dont do drugs. dont engage in behaviour that will get you aids.....duh

You answered your own question about the lack of compassion towards people with herpes. It's non-fatal. Quote:

Plus, what about rape victims? Are we supposed to just say "eh, whatever" to someone who is forced?

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
As long as you can generalize it so that you don't have to care... it's all good. Especially since we only have AIDS in the US and only whores and Jews get it.

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
HIV might never go away
HIV is a retro-virus and they are about the nastiest bitches you can come across when discussing infectious microbes retroviruses replicate utilizing reverse transcriptase and this method of duplication lacks any of the normal error correcting enzyme pathways of other viruses therefore any given form of HIV can mutate literally millions of times within a single infected human each and every time replication occurs this means that any drug or treatment plan created against the virus could become immediately ineffective some drug plans actually increase the mutation rate some of the most effective drug plans are done by blasting the body with a multi-drug dosage which kills off a large part of the virus community immediately but almost as quickly the remaining viruses mutate and become resistant to the treatment then you normally stop treatment because why waste money on useless drugs plus for atleast a short time the patient is free from the horrible side effects of the drugs and are somewhat healthy then after a period of time the treatment is duplicated its all a never-ending cycle I like to always feel hopefully that in the end science will prevail but in the case of HIV sometimes I just think there is no chance to rid ourselves of it there will be only advances made in prevention and treatment but no cure

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
that's awful, heiress it's scary to think that this could be something we'll never rid ourselves in. i have a lot of faith that medicine will advance enough to wipe it out, but there will always be something bigger and scarier.
give blood. free, easy way to get tested for HIV. bitches.

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
A few years ago I saw a newspaper article about medical marijuana. They were talking to a guy who has had AIDS (full blown) for TWENTY YEARS. He's never taken any medication for it, just pot. And even with full blown AIDS he is (or was) still healthier than people taking AZT or anything else.
But we all know that legalizing medical marijuana here is nothing more than a pipedream. |

Just sometimes i feel people are a little too "pro marijuana".. I don't know how to explain it but they pick it up as a cause because they just want it legalized for personal use or access to medical stuff not because they really care. I don't smoke pot but I'm not against it I just find it silly when people back causes just because it's cool. This goes for the people who are crazy against it. People need to stop preaching to everyone else what they can/should or should not do. Some 16 yr girl at work was trying to argue with me that I should try pot. I tried to explain to her it's not my thing and she got all crazy like I had told her its evil or something. Claiming I can't say it's not for me without trying it or something. I found it strange that while I was saying I don't care what you do (nothing worth 2 cents comes out of that girls head) she was still preaching to me. I think she was just trying to validate her use of it to her self or something. Why do people have to be firmly against or pro something? I believe in the 'do what you want as long as you are not hurting others and I will do the same' way of life. It's a shame everyones got to preach.

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
Although, in the mid-east and the orient, Ganja was taken as a cure for respiratory problems. While this is quite likely as scientific as the other chinese folk remedies that all the new-age hippies want us to believe are better than scientifically developed medication, I have noticed an interesting phenomenon.
To those who can do so legally (I'd not advocate a crime) - roll a joint, and roll a cigarette. Use the same materials for each, but one minus the dope, obviously. It should be immediately obvious, even to passive smokers in the vicinity that the joint smells less and is less acrid than the tobacco on its own. Likewise, if you smoke several cigarrettes in one room on one day, the room will stink quite horribly. However, if you smoke joints (identically made except for the addition of dope) it does not stink as bad. This perculiar phenomenon leads me to conclude that Mary-Jane has some interesting property that neutralises some of the acridity in fags. Not scientific, I know, but it is the only explanation I can come up with. |

Although, I must admit it feels as though people just aren't worried about it anymore. Back in the day there were these really confronting aids adds on TV here in Australia, and they were very effective. Now theres nothing...and infection rates seem to be rising. I think its not just prevention and protection, its also testing. People around the world should have yearly checkups with bloodtests, it would detect all types of diseases. It would be costly but at least then those with the disease would know not to infect others.

Re: "HIV hasn't gone away"
Yea it was kinda creepy like 2 days ago I woke up to get ready for school and all and turned on the T.V and on MTV they had this thing on Aids and how it affects others in different parts of the world. Not really informative though, ne ways that wasn't the thing that bugged me it was a commercial. In the commercial they had this animal meeting and all the animals were talking about AIDS and one bear was like "Let the humans deal with it themselves" then a bird or something was all "If the spread of AIDS doesn't stop soon the whole human race will be infected, and humans will die out." Well I know u don't die from all types of AIDS but it made me think. Too many people have died already, how many more will die. Kinda scary to think about.
