Default Too Much Posse

I just read the Run-D.M.C. book by Ronin Ro. It was recomended on these boards.

"Raising Hell, The Reign, Ruin and Redemption of Run-D.M.C., by Ronin Ro. Man this guy loves alliteration.

Anyway, it has a chapter devoted to the making of "Licensed to Ill". It goes on to say that Chuck D [of Public Enemy] submitted the lyric to the song "Too Much Posse" for the Beastie Boys to record. Ad-Rock is quoted as sayng that thier version was pretty much "terrible".

Too Much Posse is a sick P.E. song. I'm curious as a fan of both groups if anybody has a bootleg of the B-Boys version.

That's all.

Thanks.

Yeah, I had never heard about it until I read the book. But I mean, that is sort of mind blowing to think about. It would have been before P.E. was really anything if I have the timeline correct in my head.

Oh well. Anybody from the old school NY scene have anything to say about this?

P.S. The book is not bad. It reads like it was written for a 7th grader, but divulges quite a bit of information. So, it's a toss up. I'd recomend it if you're a fan of the era/ that style of hip-hop. Which, you probably are or you wouldn't be reading this.

I'd like to see that. I'll have to do a you tube search later.

yeah, I think that's the one I skimmed through at the library. when they talk about making Paul Revere, Run claims it was his idea for the backwards drums, DMC thought it was Adrock or something, but then Horovitz lays the final word and says that it was Yauch's doing. In fact he says something like (not quoted), "The song was just missing that final piece, and then everyone in the studio gathered around as MCA just flipped the tape over and ran it backwards. it blew everyone's mind like he had just invented the wheel."

it's just 2 wheels and me, the wind in eyes...
