Default Hollywood Walk of Fame nominations- hear me out

fans-

I was watching an interview with Mike D and Adrock from May 2011 and they mentioned the Hollywood Walk of Fame and how it was surprising that they don't have a star yet.

Adrock jokingly refers to a fee.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R__fJSuD5Rc

I checked it out and nominees for 2014 are due at the end of May.

I think it would be perfect, right in front of the Capitol Records building on Vine.

but check this out, the fee is THIRTY GRAND!!

Quote:
The Walk of Fame includes five categories:

Motion Pictures
Television
Radio
Recording
Live Theatre/Performance

All Nominations must include the following documents with the application:

Photo of the nominee
Brief bio of nominee - no more than 5 pages
Nominee's qualifications
List of contributions to the community and civic-oriented participation
Letter of agreement from the nominee or his/her management

The committee will select approximately 12-15 names for insertion into the Walk. Nomination of an individual or group must be approved by the Walk of Fame Committee, sometimes requiring several annual nominations before a nominee is selected to receive a star. The most qualified artists nominated are eligible for a star to be installed in the Walk during the subsequent year. Those not selected for the current year are requested to resubmit for the following nomination period.

The criteria for receiving a star consists of the following:
- professional achievement
- longevity of five years or more
- contributions to the community and
- the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected.

- Posthumous awards require a five-year waiting period.

After the Walk of Fame Committee has made its selections, the Chamber's Board of Directors also vote to approve the star and then for a final vote, the names are submitted to the City of Los Angeles' Board of Public Works Department.

All honorees must be approved by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the decisions of which are final and entirely within the Chamber's Discretion. Nomination and selection procedures, forms, and qualifications are guidelines only, entirely within the Chamber's discretion, and are subject to change at any time, without notice.

Special Rules for Performing Duos and Groups:

The current owner(s) of a performing duo or group name must consent in writing to the nomination before it will be considered. The names of all group members, past and present, must be included on the nomination form. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to condition award and installation of any star honoring a duo or group on its discretionary satisfaction with the sponsor's arrangements regarding honorees and the installation ceremony.
so the band has to agree with a letter from their management. it sounds like they weren't particularly against being honored, but even a world famous group like Beastie Boys probably aren't interested in shelling out 30K just to get a ceremony and star in their name.

so here's what I propose and am dead serious. we all talked about bidding for the skateboard, getting a stamp in Yauch's name, having a street or a park named after him, etc.

but this is something we can do as a global fan community.

we list ourselves "The Fans" as the sponsor and start a kickstarter campaign or something similar.

let's just say they are approved in June with the blessing of the band and their management. they would have five years to schedule the ceremony and pony up the money.

make it happen, we can make it happen

I'm a East Coast kid, so when I saw the Hollywood Walk of Fame a couple years back I was like... Cool. Shrug.

Is it still cool? I'm clueless. You know what's poppin' out there. I trust your instinct.

that's the thing. it's a tourist attraction. it covers a stretch of Hollywood and Vine and is for folks to gawk at and take pictures of

but it just seems right to honor them near the Capitol location and it would obviously speak to their legacy.

It's also for a way for the City of Los Angeles to recognize that part of their history and their contributions to the community, etc...

that LA history stuff fascinates me, just as much as the NYC stuff.

it just seems right. and a political, expensive process as mentioned in the video...

This is the shit. Let me know when it's ready and I will promote it on my Beastie community and help bring in donations including MINE of course.
Capitol paying for it would be nice, but if we as fans can pull it off on our own, it would be even better!

Until someone takes the initiative on themselves to begin the process and deal with all of the boring, upfront administrative work, none of this stuff will take off. I would do it for the stamp proposal, but just don't have any time right now. Either way, I'm down for whatever people get started.

Edit: That sounds harsh. What I mean is that these ideas pop up, get some steam, and then fizzle out because there isn't anyone (aside from Ms. Pacman with the PWR2MCA thing) willing to take on the work. Once that happens, I think people would be really enthusiastic about chipping in however they can.

Oh, and the fundraising could be done through Kickstarter (assuming they don't have a policy against projects like this). Set a goal of $30,000 (or $30,000 plus whatever other costs would need to be covered) and create a pitch and proposal. Get it passed around the fan community and hope it takes off.

well kickstarter is a no go. it has be creative project based...

that wasn't harsh at all, Johnny Chavello . you are absolutely correct. it has to be all set up so people can just jump in and participate.

who knows, maybe all this is in the works by the band's management....

James Franco had his star ceremony today. If the son of the green goblin has a star, the Beastie Boys should have theirs damnit.

James has one now? Damn. And Adam and James were friends actually. I remember when Oscope picked up his film those two were seen out together at a few places.

I hope this can happen. If we can't raise the money we can still put the message out there so it gets back to the right people.

There are 74 thousand plus registered members of this board. Imagine if just half donated $1.

I thought that might be the case. Indiegogo allows cause based campaigns from what I understand.
