bought this today when i really shouldn't have. i was just so astounded when topshop had something in my size i had to buy it! the picture actually doesn't do it justice; it looks better on. later!

it's great because as, uh, a tall long-armed girl i struggle to find jackets which are the appropriate length and this really works. also, you wan't see it there but at the wrists are these weird sorta belt loop type things and it just looks really nice. sounds wanky, but nice.

I imagine that it'd be hell to match the colours with any clothes and shoes. The green one in particular. I like the hundreds and thousands sprinkle effect on the strap though.

I finally got a pair of jeans. The brand is "7 for all mankind" and they cost only ten dollars less than I spent at a discount/resale store where I bought 17 items. What I'm saying is they cost a lot. The size is a little tighter than I'm used to, but the super helpful salesladies told me they'd stretch. They look good, and I can do kung fu kicks in them, which is a necessity. My bf told me that my butt looked glorious in them.

They're kinda like this. I think these are the jeans I got.

So I've been told, this is what's "in for fall"
Skinny jeans with the ankle bunched a little
Ginormous hand bags
Big baggy thick sweaters over leggings and tight jeans
Stockings, colored opaque
Leggings
It's all very 80s.

This is what's "out"
Ponchos
Ugg style snow boots
oversized sunglasses
pointy toed stilettos (but as far as I'm concerned, tiny stilettos are always in style)

Things I personally don't like:
girls wearing millions of necklaces all at once
the Louis Vuitton logo
bags with a whole bunch of shit dangling off them, like charms, fringe, bells, whistles, beads, baubles, etc.

it's taken me a long time to accept that i just can't do the whole ladylike thing. as much as i want to, and like dressing up and looking slammin', i always bring a pair of sneakers and jeans in the car because i know i'll want to change later. and i always pull off my earrings or take off the necklace before i run out the door because i know it'll just bother me and i'll take it off anyway. looking nice is a good thing, but i need pockets.

edit: ok i meant nuzz's first post on this page. not those wet bags of womanness above this. eeuugh.

Nuzzolese
09-12-2006, 08:48 AM
I know, 145 dollars! But then everyone was telling me how good fitting jeans are worth it, like if you're going to spend a lot on one thing it should be jeans, and a suit, and a wool overcoat...3 things, if you're going to spend a lot on just three things it should be those things. And the implication in those statements was that you SHOULD "invest" in these things because they're worth it in ways you can't imagine. I fell for it, basically. And I got the jeans. They're nice jeans. In that picture up there they look kind of odd but when I'm wearing them they look more like this http://www.ourchurch-graphics.com/member/e/e-831Ministries/Beauteous_Sunset_Sky.jpg

A couple of years ago you mentioned a style of jeans that YOU wore and loved, and because of your comment I sought them out and tried them on. But they didn't look so good on me at all. It's strange, now you're saying you might look into these jeans that I like. Yours were Levis, and since those go by numbers I don't remember what they were called. They were advertised in cool commercials at the time, you showed a picture of yourself in them, in your kitchen I think? I think they were in a dark wash and when I tried them on they felt straight leg and low rise.

My parents never would have bought me such expensive clothes as a teenager. Of course, in my teens I never asked for expensive clothes. It was the early-mid 90s, I was doing the grunge and thrift store style. I also wore my older brother's baggy clothes all the time. At the time in my life when I had the thinnest body, I was covering it up the most.

i do believe the jeans nuzz is talking about were the levis type 1s. i remember because, supermars was doing some fitting for levis at the time and she mentioned the style. later that year i procured my own type 1s. they're the ones that look like prision issue denim with the bold contrast stitching and emphasized cut pockets and oversized rivets.

... or i could be completely mistaken.

on the seven of all mankind tip: beth swears by them. sure they cost a little more, but you totally get what you pay for. she looks great in em, everytime.

wash em inside out and hang em to dry to extend their life. proper care of your dungarees could make em last for a decade.

$145 / 120 mos = $1.20 a month. not very expensive at all, when you break it down.

 i can justify any frivolous purchase. it is only money after all. spend it here, spend it there, either way you can't take it with you.

i tried on some seven jeans today. ok fit around the bum and tum but... THEY ONLY COME IN ONE LENGTH. that is so lame! they're too long and i never wear heels with jeans. i barely ever wear heels anyway.

like they're doing me a favour selling me one-length jeans that are too long for me... so i guess i'm not about to jump on the seven bandwagon.(n)(n)

Those are all nice, but I like the 1st and 3rd too. The first is more sexy, the 3nd is more elegant, except that I don't care for the leggings. Have you ever ordered from La Redoute before? They look like good all-purpose dresses to have for special occasions.

na§tee

ohhhh, cheers girls.

i think imma go for #3. i do think #1 looks better, but i have slightly less than toned arms and don't wanna look like a pale plump chicken. i would have to buy a cardigan or shawl or summat to go with #1 and that would distract from the whole, uh, statement, i guess. and nuzz, the leggings would look so awful on me! definitely not gonna include them.. just the dress.

i've ordered from la redoute plenty of times, not recently though. they're quick and reliable.
it's funny the bad rep catalogues have. i find it curious because when i was at home, living on an island with basically no clothes shops of any quality, this is what we had to do. we were all catalogue whores. then we move to the mainland and somehow it's naff? nah brah. i prefer the stress-less routine of buying something via the mail/online, getting it sent to you, sending it back free of charge if unhappy etc etc. la redoute is pretty darned decent! i think i'm going to go for this marks and spencer dress. yes, sexy m&s. elizabeth jagger is wearing it tho so it's cool OMGLOLZ!

it's a bit loose around teh boobies and tight around le arse though, so i may have to see what i can do. oh and the sleeves are like way higher. i'll have them gathered around my elbows. it's such a stupid length in the picture. i look nice in red.

i just didn't want to be TOO dressed up or TOO casual, cos i know the rest of the crew will be all "eh, fuckit" and what not, too. so i think i'm gonna go opaque tights, boots and black nails.

^that's an uber cute dress

did I post this polka dot one? I really can't remember.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/85/253453118_23f637339b_o.jpg
I have another polka dot one, black with small white dots and a red sash and it goes with my hair now and damn it I wish someone took a picture of me the night I wore it. I need to wear it again.

I am obsessed with polka dots it seems.
everything is polka dots. Even a new pair of black heels, with white polka dots on it.

sigh.

i wear these delia*s jeans ALL THE TIME.... my butt looks treat in them:

If i had money i'd wear more tailored suits and stuff.... but i dont, so i wear cords and sweaters or cuffed dress pants and sweaters or shirts and blazers (like this: http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/464/464091/main/on464091-00p01v01.jpg)

Those earrings are just awesome! Total coolness! Even Björk is envious!!!
Use them with care tho, those wires are really fragile. I had a pair that a were made in a similar fashion, red glittering stones in a shape of fireworks or a flower or spider, take your pick, but the ones sticking out broke one by one cause I wore them so much.

And love that turquoise brooch (I'm like a magpie when it comes to anything glittering)!

cosmo105
02-04-2007, 05:11 PM
yeah, they're very delicate. i also got a brooch in a similar style that's dangling wires with flowers that extend about 5" or so...and it's got to be from at least the 1940s, maybe 50s, so i'm super duper careful.

^ silk or satin? brand?

I've been looking for a silk cami for ages, ever since the Scanlan & Theodore online shop shut down and the snooty nosed bitches at the Collins St store refused to help me. I haven't been able to find any i've loved quite so much since.

witchery, silk. well 97% silk 3% elastine. they are on sale right now, can buy in store or on the website
http://www.witchery.com.au/www/136/1001127/displayproductcategory/1510174.html

(i also have one of the printed silk cami's in blue and pink, they are quite long in length, but i sort of tuck the front it and it works, my friend has a completely diff body shape to me, and she has one too and she looks good so i assume they suit most people)

i have a fear of snooty shop assistants.

Yeah, me too. I guess the catalogues are just for ideas and fantasy shopping. The last clothes I bought were from Walmart. And lately I've been more interested in what I can wear for dance class than anything else. I don't even need nice work clothes anymore since I just wear hospital scrubs. So (besides the walmart things) I haven't bought any clothes since last fall.

but yet again they only look good on me if they are super low cut and hug the body after the empire waist, not just turn into a sack.

this is why almost my entire wardrobe consists of worn thin, and slightly too small thrift store t-shirts.

I happen to like babydoll tops because I don't have a waist. I am an apple. also, many of them have pockets. I have tried on many many many babydoll tops this summer, and I assure you that I have chosen the ones that are the least preggo looking and cradle my breasts flatteringly.

I hope. I did try on a really cute knit top at H&M, but the flared part started in such a way that it made my boobs look like a shelf and like I was twice as wide. oof. too much.

the dress I made isn't like that picture so much. I should take a picture. I got lots of compliments.

I LOVED Factory Girl! I'd never liked Sienna Miller before, because I'd never seen her in anything where she played much of a character she was just sexy and cute- Layer Cake, Alphie.
I thought she did a good job as Edie. They got the look down amazingly, it was perfectly cast. And Hayden was impressive too. (By the way, did you notice that they never once called him Bob Dylan? It was like it was only implied but they weren't allowed or something) They had some RACY sex scenes! I watche the unrated version and normally that just means two more exposed boobs than the theatrical version has, but with this one they weren't kidding.

But the real star of that movie, in my opinion, was Guy Pierce. He was outstanding. Although I could tell the movie was suggesting that he was partly to blame, I didn't totally blame him. I don't think the movie was trying to put it all on him, either. I think Edie, herself was very responsible for what she did to herself. And another thing, whenever I watch movies about hip hipsters in the 60s I always come away thinking they were all complete assholes. Anyone? Anyone? Assholes?

I haven't seen Life as a House, but in Shattered Glass, he's a quasi-ruthless fraidy-dweeb. Definitely better than any single moment of the two Star Warz movies he was in, Lord knows.

I can't justify him as an actor just yet, but I'm just saying. Yeah; I still don't quite know why Lucas cast some of the people he did -- especially the unknowns.

Dorothy Wood

I thought Factory Girl was empty. It may just be because those people were empty themselves. I didn't cry once, and I pretty much always cry at tragic sort of movies. Hayden's "bob dylan" was too much of a caricature. Guy Pearce did a great job, but his face looks so different from the real Andy Warhol that I was pulled out of the story too much.

The movie looked alright, but it could have been better. It felt too contemporary.

Sienna did an excellent job though. Her american old fashioned/old money rich girl lilt was spot on.

I really like some of the new designs coming into style now, because they look so glamorous and soft, and a lot more flattering than what came before -the leggings, big plastic jewelry, and shapeless baggy bubble skirts/dresses. I mean, that stuff is cute, but I'm so glad that FINALLY there are things in stores that I actually LIKE. Things look more 30s and 40s now (but not that horrible rockabilly interpretation of it.) Things look more classy and high quality. It seemed for a while they everything looked so flimsy and poorly made, not to mention really unflattering! The newer feminine style is much nicer to wear. Waists are slimmer and higher, pant legs are wider, details are more polished and grown-up, and jewelry is more glamorous. Yay!

russhie
10-24-2007, 03:53 AM
I don't see the point in spending good money on pants only to have them drag on the ground and tear.

I don't see the point in spending good money on shoes only to have them hidden, firstly by pants, then by a desk.

It also makes the pants look ill-fitted and in some cases sloppy.

You wanted a point, you got three.

HEIRESS
10-24-2007, 09:59 AM
I have big ole ghetto thighs that often dont fit into most conventional pants with ease, or I have to buy pants that are loose in the waist just so that the thigh area wont be skin tighttighttight or atleast allow some functional body movement
so if you want to talk about "ill fitting" then thats my definition because not every body is built the same

therefore these pants appealed to me because they seems to have nice width to the thigh area, yet a form fitted hip/waist area

Plus I have a huge rack so I like having a wide pant leg to balance out what I got going on on top. Im not saying I wouldnt hem them a bit though.

also they are tight in the booty still so they look like they would be extremely comfortable whilst still highlighting a toned rump.
if you call that sloppy, then dont wear the pants.

If I had skinny legs Id post pictures of differnt pants, but I dont.

I think it looks like it would make the ass look rounder. I like that.

Coll sweaters and hoodies.

I have long skinny legs so the no feet pants don't look good on me.

Oh well, I'm sure they're cute on someone else.

I never said anything against bootleg/wide leg pants, jeez. I'm talking about length here - I understand skinny and straight leg pants don't suit everyone, I just remarked that having pants that cover your entire shoe look ill-fitted.

I'm talking this:

Versus this:

see to me the second pair look ill-fitting (too short). although i think of she was wearing flats and not hideous wedges then they'd be the perfect length. that's the length/style of my work pants.

for my jeans and stuff i prefer them to mostly cover my shoe with just the front part of the shoe poking out. this is also good as when i sit down, the pants still cover most of my leg, as opposed to ones that dont drag on the ground, tend to expose the ankles and that is never a good look.

ideal length: kind of like paris' jeans here

If you put some of those girls in sweatpants, they would look fresh out of the trailer park. I thought models were supposed to be attractive?

And a lot of those dresses are ugly.

^ yeah I have some awesome Cooper St skinnies for work, they're total fuzz magnets though. I persist because of the compliments they garner. Witchery kicks arse, it's cheaper than Saba but just as good quality. Kicks arse for work.

I'm on a Country Road kick at the moment.
