How would they know they were southwest of Hawaii? Everyone on that island is kinda dumb. And even if Sayid or Locke had a fairly good idea of where they might be, they never tell the redshirts anything. Hell, wasn't it Hurley that didn't know about the polar bears until Charlie said something?

Of course, that's assuming that note was supposed to be written by a redshirt.

wasn't it a flight from sydney to honolulu (or maybe los angeles, i forget, doesn't matter)? it's a fairly safe assumption that on a flight from point A to point B, you crashed somewhere between point A and point B

Meh, I still don't think anyone on that island would know anything like that.

Also, you have to take into consideration which way they were flying in. If the were going east to west then how would the island be to the west of Hawaii when they were going to LA?

Theories on "Walt" sightings :

He's like that creepy chick from "The Ring"......you know......"when you see the ring, you die..."

Everytime someone's seen the "captured" Walt, they die.

Therefore, Sayid's the next to go, if you follow my theory.

Can't wait for tonight's episode, all about the survivors from the back of the plane....

Medellia

Therefore, Sayid's the next to go, if you follow my theory.
I think Sayid's next too, but I hadn't thought about the Walt/Ring theory. I figured Sayid would eventually be killed off back when Boone was still alive. Either Sayid or Charlie is my vote for the next dead one. Although maybe I just want that asshat gone and that's why I think Chucky's gonna die.

PS-I saw a couple of those books too. The one with Kate on the cover, she's apparently not even in it. Talk about false advertisement. Glad I only read a review of that thing and not the actual book.

PSS-I'm really interested in this podcast that QDrop mentioned earlier. What'd they say?

well, its a long flight from sydney to LA, and they were only in the air for what, 2-4 hours? is that long enough to put you past hawaii? saying "southwest of hawaii and northeast of australia" is basically saying "between hawaii and australia", it's really not a very specific area, it's not at all unreasonable to assume that you're in that area

I thought it was a great episode.

The first 20 minutes was craziness on the beach, anna gave cpr to the little girl and saved her, that guy who ended up to be one of "them" came running out of the jungle to say that bernard was stuck in a tree, then the first night they got attacked apparently and Mr. Echo killed two of them.

This episode captured for me what was so great about the first season. I was excited the whole time.

When the guy said that the Nathan guy wasn't on the list because he wasn't a "good person", that was awesome....made me wonder about what the hell was going on...

edit - sorry, I didn't warn before any of that!

beastieangel01

crystal (or anyone else who hasnt seen it yet) dont read any of this post if you havent seen the episode yet

that guy who ended up to be one of "them" came running out of the jungle to say that bernard was stuck in a tree,

i missed the first couple minutes of this episode (i have a class that ends RIGHT at 9:00, it sucks, and i dont have a vcr), so i have a question; did he say "help, bernard is stuck in a tree?" or did he say "help, some dude's stuck in a tree"? i came in right as they were getting him out of the tree, so i missed whatever came before it. this is important, because if he mentioned him by name during that part of the episode, then it means that they knew the passengers' names BEFORE they even crashed, which is spookier than them learning them via eavesdropping.

Quite interesting and lucidly thought out....EXCEPT :

Why do people keep dying, then, if they were so meticulously "placed" there and why are some people psychotic (Rousseau) or infecting other's with some kind of paste (like Locke with Boone) in order to have "visions?"

Yeah, why they gotta make the Canadians all evil? ;)

Since we're talking about characters who say they're from Canada: Kate said early in the 1st season she's a Canadian (in a flashback). This may be a stupid "well, duh" question, but whatever. She was lying about her nationality, right? The law that was tracking her were American authorities, not Canadian authorities.

Just wonderin'...

I really enjoyed last night's episode.

It was good to see a flashback of Ana Lucia's character. She's been plenty bitchy and borderline psycho as of late, that it was nice to actually see some context to her crazy-ass paranoid behavior.

And for the Jack-Kate-Sawyer love triangle, I used to think Kate would hook up with Jack, but I'm now thinking she'll go for Sawyer. Whispering in his ear so he'd swallow the pills... oh man, Jack was jealous, you could tell. ;)

if he's anywhere else, he's in another bunker. the computers in each bunker must all be connected somehow to communicate.

the whole "don't communicate or another incident" thing... hmmm... who knows... maybe, just a thought, the incident was the loss of that arrow bunker. and the way it was lost or destroyed was because the Others hijacked another computer in another bunker and found their way to the arrow bunker...

okay I finally saw the episode. I LOVED IT. I was losing interest in Lost pretty quickly. What got me was the Locke and Eko parts, the characters of course compliment each other well.

Then the thing with the computer, I was like holy, fucking, shit. Not that I think it's Walt, but just how fucked up that is to respond with "Dad?" right after he responds... crazy!

No mention of the Michelle Rodriguez/Cynthia Watros arrests? They were both arrested within fifteen minutes of each for drunk driving. It happened on wednesday night, so they were probably going home after the cast viewing party, which was possibly at Evangeline's house since it was her episode.

Eko is totally my new favorite character.

Eko: "Allow me to start at the beginning.... Long before the Bible..."

Locke: "Whoa, when you said beginning..."

Eko and Locke work well together! (y)

Totally agree. Ana Lucia is growing on me too.

The fact she was a cop before and worked for her moms, who kinda seemed to coddle her, gives some more depth to Ana Lucia.

Anyhow....I think she'll stay off by herself for awhile, but Jack is gonna want to hit that, so she'll integrate soon....OR....

She'll be the next to be abducted by the "others." Are there any bullets left in her gun? Didn't she use the last one to pop a cap in Shannon?

How about that relationship between Sayid and Ana Lucia? Both saying they're "already dead inside" so it doesn't matter if they mutually destroy each other? Hmmm......

My bet is that Ana Lucia will be in a position to save Sayid's life at some point and she'll fail to do so...either out of some lingering doubt that Sayid will kill her given the opportunity or she'll just be physically unable to do so...

All theoretical....but MAN...what a show!

Okay, this is off topic, but related. Has someone posted that the guy playing Sayid is about 36 years old and in real life he's living with Barbara Hershey, who is about 57 years old. Ewwww. When I saw that she was his date for some Emmy Awards or such I really hoped that she was a friend of his mother or something but alas. (maybe I should be glad that it's finally a young man/older woman thing, but even so, it's Barbara Hershey for Christ's sake)

P.S. Did any of you watch Twin Peaks when it was originally broadcast? I'm hooked on Lost, but I keep flashing back on Twin Peaks -- where you like it and expect that something will happen and it will be a well-written something but it never comes and it just starts to go downhill because the writers were just improvising and never did have a plan. I just want to put that out there this once. Thanks.

Oh, and I think the show desperately needed Ana Lucia because voices in the jungle can only go so far.

So the next episode is Eko's backstory. I should enjoy that.

I spent too much of the hiatus listening to various podcasts and I don't want to hear any more hair-brained theories. I just want 42 minutes of drama.

Has anyone heard whether California has decided about whether to yank Michelle Rodriguez's probation in real life? That could decide what happens to her character this season.

Cosmic - today on IMDB news - Lost star Naveen Andrews has confirmed reports he fathered a love-child while briefly separated from his long term partner Barbara Hershey. The couple separated for a "brief period" last year during which Andrews had an affair with another woman, but he is determined to do the honorable thing. He says, "I have every intention of assuming appropriate responsibility for the child."

Hahaha he knows how to get around. I enjoy the term "lovechild", they should just call it "TorridAffairChild".

Yay for Eko's backstory....haven't heard what's going on with Michelle though.

Lovechild is a very outdated term!

Ah, I was out of the loop. My podcasts stopped before Michelle's arraignment. California is going to ask to revoke Michelle's probation because she picked up the new DWI in Hawaii. link to bad photo of co-arrestee (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2005-12-29-lost-arraignments_x.htm). She could work out a deal in both states and keep working, but the California prior is the bigger problem, I'd guess.

And further proof that Michell is a dumbass

"Rodriguez has been pulled over by Honolulu police multiple times since joining the cast this season. She was cited for driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone on Oahu on Nov. 1 and was fined $357.

The 27-year-old actress also paid a $300 fine for an earlier traffic offense on the island. She was cited for driving 90 mph in a 35 mph zone on Oct. 20.

Previously, Rodriguez was fined $197 for going 80 mph in a 50 mph zone on Aug. 24."

I dislike her even more now.

ma belle

is it true that the people on the island are, in fact, dead, and as they face themselves and reconcile with their life they disappear from the island.... much to the others' surprise who don't yet realise they're dead.

its a mad plot, dont know how they can keep it going. a friend of mine in the film industry reckons that he knows this to be the big secret. surely it cant sustain itself for very long if this is the case.

Eko and Charlie go back to camp and not tell anyone.

"WALT? ON THE COMPUTER? WALLLTTTT!!"

Michael goes solo.

"And please, dont use the computer to communicate with anyone else or the world will implode and Sith will rise again to take over the universe."

Baldy and Eko don't tell anyone because its really not that big of a deal.

I hope freckles and Sawyer get shot again soon and die this time.

Seriously, these people dont take to each other about anything. If i was on the island, mandatory camp fire meeting every other night to talk about things so everyone can get on the same page. How much of the first season do you need to watch to get the gist of it?

All of it really if you wanted to understand the whole story and get to understand all the characters and their relationships- although if you missed a couple you would be alright - they show important flashbacks at start of each episode.

I was going to try and sum it up in one go for you but I dont think thats easy to do

The monster is definately not just smoke, because smoke couldnt rip the pilot out of the plane. It's most likely a shapeshifting thing, and the reason it was smoke when we saw it is because Eko wasn't afraid of it. Reminds me of prisoner of azkaban and pitch black.

Why do the others feel the need to be SO surreptitious, yet they ACT like they're all powerful? Hmmm?

Anyhow, I bet Santa is full of shit, but somehow he and his crew have access to a boat, so they can go off island. Are they enforcers for the Dharma group? There so that no one gets off the island, yet they keep tabs on whoever falls onto the island?

Crap, you'd think they'd have cameras everywhere to see what people are doing around the island.

a lot of you schmoes are gettin' impatient; "oh, cry cry cry, let's see some answers, cry cry cry". fuck... i'd rather they drag it out so it makes sense instead of rushing it and making a shitty ending.

 Matthew! Don't diss my O.C. :( .... But yes true, I'd rather they continue the way they're producing the show, and not rush it. I hate movies/shows where you think there's an awesome plot, then all of a sudden they rush it at the end and it's over and you're just sitting there in the chair thinking 'wat the flying fuck'!

I'm in the same boat here Crys. But that happend to me a few weeks into season 1 as well.

I've said it before, they seem to be banking on the show, and it's viewers, being around forever, so they are resolving nothing at all, and opening new doors every week.

I must admit, I've only seen 2 episodes from this season, so I can't comment too much, but judging by what people are writing in here, that still seems to be the case.

Man, the first season of this show is fucking AWESOME. Just makes me sad about second season. Though I was wondering still about Hurley's weight loss and I found this online:

"Hurley's inability to lose any significant weight, like many other things on the island,is shrouded in mystery. That mystery, however, will be definitively solved during February sweeps ... well, as definitively as anything ever gets solved on 'Lost,' anyway."

Sawyer pulled a con.

Sayid and Hurley are going to get it on.

Charlie's smarter than he's come off so far...addicts are survivors and he's gonna find a way back into Claire's bosom...bank it.

Sayid's back story last week kicked ass : the American dude who turned Sayid on to torture has been around forever (he was the main villain in Highlander and was also in Starship Troopers, plus numerous guest appearances on shows like ER, but I don't know the actor's name) and played a great role.

Looks like Claire was in at least one or two OTHER hatches, which makes the total number of hatches to be revealed now 5, right?

Are Jack and Ana going to get it on or wait around forever to lip lock?

Will Eko get some more air time? : his character is by far one of the most interesting.

When it showed Libby in the mental hospital, I totally thought it was gonna be Rosseau.

Yes it does.

I hated Michael always, but now he's officially horrible. And he's not a very good actor, whoever plays him. I'm glad at least Sayid is seeing through his obvious bullshit a little. Blah. This show just pisses me off, but I still watch it.

The season finale is getting ready to start in less than 1 hour. I bet Jack bones Kate behind a tree.

The finale was retarded. It already aired in Canada.

Isn't the dude playing Michael the same one who played Rory Breaker in Lock, Stock?

nah that ain't him. the guy playing michael is in the second matrix i think. he's the dude who replaces tank/dozer. he's in alot of movies; just no major roles.

He was in the second and third Matrix movies, and he was also Mercutio in the Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes.

I haven't seen an episode since Shannon died, because I hated how they did it, but wanted to see the finale. It sucked, but I loved the flashback when Desmond got to the island, was kind of horror movie-esque. Really cool. So was the part when Desmond turned the key and it got all shaky and the sky turned white. Also, Desmond looked like Eddie Vedder.

Good. I'm glad Desmond is back.

Tzar, I downloaded that program but I have no idea how to do bittorrents. I'll try to figure it out.

He was so hot in the flashbacks with the short haircut. Dayum.
