but she's not in shape...

she's unaturally skinny. biologically women are suppose to have more fat on them compared to men. a nice lawer of supple yet firm baby fat.

It makes them uncomfortable when they're attracted to people who seem to be aware of having widely appreciated good looks?

They're bitter, and make assumptions based on appearances?

They're jealous and catty?

They know that even if they looked that good, they'd still be miserable and mean?

See I don't know, I mean think of Pamela Anderson.

In photos many men find her extremely attractive. But imagine what she must look like in person. Lip liner way outside her lip line. Black eye shadow up to her eyebrows which are penciled in. Massive tits stretched to the limit. I mean, I think she'd just look scary in person.

Like a drag queen.

I mean, if she weren't famous and you saw someone like that in person would you want to sleep with them if they rolled up on you?

I think I'd just think she was desperate.

yeah.

while i often agree with Cosmo and Zorra's pesimistic views on the current standard of beauty in the US....

this chick is pretty hot.
a tad on the skinny side for my personal taste....but no where near the anorexic standards i've seen on some magazine covers.

she has good curves, nice skin tone....she really has no flaws....
and cosmo's forced connection between "runway beauty" and drag queens is getting tiresome.

i think Zorra and Cosmo just seriously fuckin hate gorgeous women...as cliche as that is.
you can draw your own conclusions as to why that is....

but it's probably for the same reasons that most of us guys would fall over ourselves mocking any posted pics of male abercrombie models....

And hey, enough with the skinny-hate, okay? Some people look like that and they like to be healthy and workout and avoid junk food. It doesn't mean they're starving themselves. A few steaks and donuts vs a couple of skipped meals; which is worse? I'd say the bad food is worse. Some guy saying a girl ought to do some situps - so she'd look the way he'd like her to look, is just as bad as saying she ought to gain weight. Cosmo's all health-crusader and then when a girl's on the skinny side she assumes she's unhealthy. She looks athletic, aside from the sweater pillows. And Zorra's always talking about feminism but she avoided the obvious discussion topic here of a beauty pageant and what that suggests, instead opting to cattily comment on the girl's body. I'm indignant! Or I would be if I still cared now that my rant is over.

Personally I wouldn't want to look like her, too typical, no personal style. But she DID win a crown. That's like, 2 years of free cosmetics and paid public appearances.

and let's just talk about the elephant in the room.
none of the women mocking her will ever look like her.
and yes *gasp*, they wish they could.
there is nothing wrong with that. everyone would love to be super attractive...even if it could mean looking generic in some sense.

i'll never know what it feels like to be Johny depp or whoever People magazine voted the sexiest man alive. it would be great to get that kind of attention.
i've been in social settings where other guys or friends are getting all the play because they have more classical attractive features.
yeah it makes me jealous.
that's part of being human.

i'm not sure why people have to deny that and instead hide behind some trumped up, exagerated attack on people who just have good genes.
yeah, maybe we wouldn't want to present ourselves in such a "processed" look as many models....
but cosmo or zorra can't pretend they don't wish they had tits, thighs, and a stomach like hers...

and i can't pretend i don't wish i had bigger, more a muscular body frame than my current 155lb one.....

mickill
04-26-2006, 02:50 PM

Good break down. It's all about hating on people that you don't know. If people can't admit that this is such a wrong thing to do then we will never go anywhere in life. For all we know this girl could be not only smart but also very modest instead of she is a barbie doll with no brain. And she cute no doubt.

yeah, I agree with Mike, Nuzz, Q, and Gmile completely. It's ridiculous... you post a picture of someone thin and you get ripped apart... you post a picture of someone who's slightly overweight and nobody says anything. it's bullshit. I remember posting a picture of myself with my siblings (I'm in the weight range I'm supposed to be, I work out, and I eat healthy) and somebody said "eat a hamburger." somebody also said i dressed like a herb but I won't hold that against them ;) . but yeah, people say stupid comments about skinny people on here all the time and it really kind of pisses me off.

I do not agree with what Qdrop said. I just want to say, I'm not suggesting Zorra and Cosmo wish they looked like Miss Kentucky. I mean, I'd never win Miss USA and I don't wish I looked like that. I may wish I could do certain things other people can, but for the most part I like the way I look...or I've just accepted it and don't wish otherwise. In any case I wouldn't assume such jealousy on their parts. I think maybe it's a bitterness towards a society that doesn't applaud them as much as it applauds others. And they're just being silly and not thinking about what they're saying.

Depending on which part your in. Thick women are always in style down south and espcially with the majority of black males and hispanic, at least in my experince.

zorra_chiflada
04-26-2006, 03:44 PM
ok, i just gotta say, i think a lot of you are under the impression that i am an unreasonable crazy woman. jealous, bitter, hating on any skinny hot fake tit blonde.
i swear, cross my heart and hope to die, that i do not wish i looked like that. i'm serious. (i especially am not too fond of those tits) i do not hate the woman, and i don't believe in indicated anything of the sort in this thread. what she does with her time and body is her decision, and while i may not agree with it, i can't just say i hate her for doing it. but i do not want to look like that. in all honesty, i'd rather look like cosmo, because in my opinion she is hot as hell. :)
also, i'm not going to talk about the whole beauty pageant thing because it pisses everyone off and i don't want to hear it.

i also think that white guys are more attracted to that body type than black or hispanic guys.

You know because because being one of the best students in her class and getting scholarships shows she's a complete retard.

Yes, but don't you see, that's the exact problem. These can be legitimate, intelligent, awesome people, and for some reason or another, a part of the competition is dressing up in a SWIM SUIT. This has absolutely NO bearing on anything, besides tan lines, breasts, thighs, etc. etc. If they are trying to see if she has "grace" or "poise", they usually already have another category-based-on-looks which is the evening gown area. So yes, in general, it is demeaning and pointless for an intelligent woman to have to bring herself down to this level, because nobody will tune into the fucking show if she doesn't.

People shouldn't be judging a person based on looks to begin with. But it's all bout a spring board. They can take that padgent and run with it. It's not illegal and the wise tune in to see what they say. My mom's watches it and I know she doesnt tune in just to fanatize bout how she could be like them (she loves the fashions, talent part and q&a not t&a necessarly)

Yes, because they're all basically retarded. Naturally.

Oh man, so I'm retarded? You've got some big e-balls there chumpy. Whatever.

I really don't see why you have to assume that I would jump on her. So I guess you think I'm a very desperate man with no morals or standards I take it.

I don't even see where you get off on calling me a retard just because I have different opinions on beauty.

I guess there's something wrong with the fact that I want nothing more than a woman to be herself to impress me.

You go ahead and call me retard somemore there tough guy, I need some good laughs every now and then.

i just have to say that i saw this person on one of the morning shows a couple days ago and shes super cute, pretty and good sense of humor. she also didn't seem awfully dense.

people who rant about women degrading themselves by entering these contests probably shouldnt be throwing stones. golden rule people. different strokes, etc.

i also want to note that i am sure that even the skinniest person walking in public in a bikini would be walking and holding their posture in a way that even a thicker persons bones would protrude. try it ladies. get naked and pretend you are walking down a runway in front of zillions of people. i bet no matter how much more body fat you have than her that your ribs, pelvis, etc. will be sticking out soley due to the way that you hold yourself. its called posture, give it a try.

Nice rant.

Maybe you'd like to read that post again, though. I never called anyone here a retard.

ok, seriously, I'll be a big guy and step and offer my apologies. I truly did read it wrong.

I always did respect you and know you like to mess with people a little so I thought maybe you were implying that I was mentaly challanged, ree hee.

Seriously though, she is beautiful and I really don't know much about her. I was just fooling around when I said the down to earth comment above but it's the first thing that comes to mind, without knowing anybody, with fake boobies and dyed blonde hair intensified with cosmetics.

Reading what Iceygirl said during the interview she watched, she does actually seem like a good person inside and hopefully she'll make Americans proud to have her as Miss America.

The upsetting thing to me though since she is Miss America is that she has the Pam Anderson image or Britney Spears look and this is the implication that people get from us.

People from other countries get the image of us being fat hamburger eating slobs and now they think we like us some fake dyed hair baloon tittied ladies since she represents us.

I've always been turned off by women of that type simply because they will go to the extreme in spending much $$ for the exterior which is nothing more than an expensive enhancement of sex appeal. Being that the enhancement is targeted towards the exteroir in that manner, of course people are gonna be like the wolf of Looney Tunes with buldging eyes and tongue hanging out.

It's just too easy when someone sees a lady like this and just like any other man that sees her, the first impression that comes to mind is "I'd fuck the dogshit outta her" rather than "I bet she's a great minded lady and I wouldn't mind waking every morning with her and for her to bear my children" and yada yada.

Hopefully you get where I'm coming from.(y)

It's not illegal so it's okay? Yeah people shouldn't be judging people based on looks - which is why the bathing suit thing is fucking ridiculous. But why change standards now? The point is that there's NO POINT of having the swimsuit competition besides getting ratings. It has nothing to do with why the women deserve the title.

Why not? Pageants are a strange thing to be going so strong in our culture now. They seem outdated. And what about those child beauty pageants where the 10 year olds wear makeup and fake tanner and wink at the judges? It's a relevant thing to talk about.

Q, you're taking it too far. You have absolutely no right to assume this about anyone. Cosmo and I have talked a lot, and I feel that we are on the same wavelength - yes, we both get "ah geez I'm fat", sometimes, but if it came right down to it I would honestly rather be what i am NOW than look like that woman. Because I have no interest in my attractiveness coming from a tanning bed, or some bleach in my hair.

Now it doesn't matter because you are probably just saying this to start shit, because though at one point on this board you used to make valid criticisms and posts, apparently you've given that all up just so you can stroke your superiority shaft.

Qdrop
04-27-2006, 07:50 AM
well maybe we should open this discussion up to pageants in general....

why are they held? what role do they fill? are they harmful to society?

i guess i am kinda torn on beauty pageantry and our species obsession with "beauty"....and the higher calling of "intellect".

it's basically a "nature vs. intellect" agrument.
and the 2 are exclusive from each other....as humans are the only self-aware, intellectual animal on the planet.

on the nature side....we ARE animals. sex and procreation is everything. that is the reason we are here as a species (up to this point), and our entire biology has evolved and sexually adapted to continue that. sexual selection was a monumental element in our evolution.
there are reasons we love symetrical bodies.
guys love proportional curves (right down down to a mathatical ratio-regardless of size), big tits, round asses, symetrical features...
women like tall, symetrical, "fit" figures in men....the preferance in boyish vs. masculine features LITERALLY seems to revolve around thier ovulation (bizarre, i know...but true, and has evolutionary reasons).

^that is just who were are. none of that is "wrong". certainly not in natural law setting.

the debate begins when we bring in the other side of the story: intellect.
with our human conscience and self-awareness came our ability to reflect and invent social constructs that may not exist in nature.
while we have animal instincts from our evolutionary past...we are NOT slaves to them. with our intellect, we have the ability to CHOOSE. we can create metaphysical ideals and run our society accordingly.

tigers don't call other tigers "sluts".
but we can.

we, as humans, have used our intellect to create ideals like equality, value of mind over body, sexual constraint, etc.

we LOVE to watch scantily-clad, biologically beautiful people parade around in front of us. it's natural. it's compulsory.
we also have created social constructs that demonize such behavior, and those that enjoy it.

who's right? is there a "right?"

i guess you're just super enlightened. it's as if society's beauty standards have NO effect on you. they can't get past your "self love" armor, huh?

yay dandy.

and NO, i am not saying you are fat or unattractive. so don't go there.

I've obviously talked about how I "feel fat", etc., when seeing other girls, but my point is that I'm not just basing it entirely on society and seeing skinny girls on TV, I actually AM overweight. But even then, generally I feel fine with myself, besides going through bouts of feeling icky once in a while.

I don't know why I should have to defend myself for feeling fine about the way I look

on the nature side....we ARE animals. sex and procreation is everything. that is the reason we are here as a species (up to this point), and our entire biology has evolved and sexually adapted to continue that. sexual selection was a monumental element in our evolution.
there are reasons we love symetrical bodies.
guys love proportional curves (right down down to a mathatical ratio-regardless of size), big tits, round asses, symetrical features...
women like tall, symetrical, "fit" figures in men....the preferance in boyish vs. masculine features LITERALLY seems to revolve around thier ovulation (bizarre, i know...but true, and has evolutionary reasons).
You would think that this would mean women with childbearing hips would be preferable over women who look like they could barely squeeze a jellybean out.

oh it does....but there is a balance between fuller curvy hips and unhealthy obecity, etc.

it's all about that seemingly magic ratio that men look for in women...
i believe it's .7

http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/biology/b103/f01/web1/ekanayake.html

it's that ratio that seems to drive men nuts....anwhere from skinny models to marylin monroe....from size 1 to size 16, they all seem to have about the same ratio.

you don't.
the point i'm obviously alluding to is that if you have ever compared your physical traits to another "popularly attractive" woman and found yourself wanting or feeling fat...
then by default, you are wishing you looked like that.

that's all.
that doesn't make you weak, or ugly...or anything other than normal.

I'm kind of surprised that guys in this thread would make a big deal out of her for her looks alone. She's nothing special. She looks like a million other women, like any model in any ad.

Not that she looks bad, it's just that beautiful women heavily made up and put on display are so prevalent and common everywhere, that I'm surprised more men haven't become jaded to their sex appeal. You see women looking just like that selling everthing from sunglasses to cars to beer to hamburgers to ....everything. And Miss USA is just selling the USA brand...and its sponsors and those companies who bought airtime during the pageant.

It's superfluous to comment on her beauty just as it comes off as pointlessly contrary to say she looks scary or something. It's like, her looks are not up for argument. Whether she sells sex to you, that's your choice, but she is "hot" that's a fact. Sex appeal isn't even a personal choice anymore, as soon as I see a woman like that - before I even ask myself if I personally think she's attractive - I instantly recognize her looks as "hot chick." And I feel nothing. I'm numb to hot chicks like that and I kindasorta thought most guys would be too.

I'd expect a disinterested "yeah she's hot" from most people. So someone making a big deal about a woman who looks like her - whether they're drooling or ripping on her - it seems false or odd to me.

(addition) If she were in person in front of me in a normal everyday setting then I could see how she'd be stunning to people in the room - because she looks so glammed up and fit and polished. But that's different because she'd be within reach for people and would be a normal person. But still I think I'd just see her as a hot chick and it wouldn't affect me. I'd accept it and how people reacted to her.

But on display, from a distance like this....she's not even human. She's like...I don't know what she's like. An ad, something impersonal. I can see how she wouldn't have an affect on guys. But I would be surprised at people insisting that she is not "hot" because it sounds like they're just trying to prove a point that...

... the times they are achanging for sex appeal, and people are wanting a new image because hers has grown stale and ineffective through overuse. We're satiated with women who look like her.

You're familiar with them?

I went to school with this girl for seven years. She won the Miss Teen USA for the state, and then she won the state pageant that took her to the Miss USA pageant. I was friends with her in Middle School then not so much. She was not one of the "popular" girls at all. She had about two friends, a gay guy and his sister. All she did was school work and pageant stuff. She was nice but, well, nothing special. And no one in my school ever made a big deal out of her looks...probably because she wasn't slutty. I think this picture says it all.

Has anyone pointed out that Miss USA is a crock of shit invented to compete with the superior Miss America, or that Miss USA is now owned by Trump? The Miss America system used to be one of the few scholarship vehicles for college-hopeful women, and wasn't that just the saddest thing? They tended to be smart girls who did well in school, and they happened to look beautiful.

I have no problem with attractive high school girls competing to be miss butter or canoe queen or whatever in local pageants, and the movie about drag queen pageants in the late 80s-early 90s is a favorite, but the more recent focus on younger kids and the whole industry that's been built up to support pageant hopefuls taints the whole thing for me.

the fact of the matter is that history is pretty much on my side.
while styles have changed....our physical obsessions haven't really.
some THINK they have "look at Betty Page and the 50's pin up girls vs. the twigs we worship today!"
but the .7 ratio and obsession with symetry and round, girlish features never has.

the "processed look" will always be popular....only the style will change.
the "processed look" is basically an accentuation of all that humans find sexually attractive (which really never changes)...so how could that every go out of vogue?

yeah, that's basically socially-accepted pedophilia.

it's one thing to have baby pageants were you parade babies and toddlers around to see who's the cutest...

and we will always like to watch and rate mature women walking around half-naked looking sexy.

but to combine the 2 and have little girls trying to accentuate they're non-existant sexual traits to look more "attractive"...and people judge them on it....
holy fuck.

what good can come from a competition where the ideal judges are pedophiles?

EDIT: DELETION OF QUOTE OF QDROP'S POST

I don't think they get scholarships anymore, I think they get acting auditions or something.
This year's winner was studying business at a community college. Real impressive.
And I read that they only compete in 3 categories - swimsuit, evening gown, and interview. Where's the talent competition?

EDIT: They do get a scholarship, to a film/TV school.

The MISS USAŽ 2006 prize package includes: Official Miss USA Mikimoto pearl tiara; A Year supply of CoverGirl Cosmetics; 2 Year Scholarship from The School for Film and Television in NYC; custom designed wardrobe by Tadashi; A four day 3 night "all - inclusive" vacation from American Airlines; Show wardrobe and cash prize from Steve Madden; a year supply of haircare by Farouk Systems; a swimsuit wardrobe from BSC Swimwear Thailand; New York City apartment for the year of her reign including living expenses; and a personal appearance wardrobe.

Right, and I'm "saying" she is "processed" in a "style" that might "be" going out of "fashion".

then by "style" you must be talking about hair color, fabric styles, skin tone, shoe styles, jewlery...those kind of things.

if you are talking about accentuating sexual traits and physical attributes (make-up on face, showing off tits, legs, and ass)......that will never go out of style.

Well yeah, that's what I am talking about, her look; the blonde tan heavy eye makeup look. Sorry I wasn't more specific. And also, maybe the way she is displayed in a bikini with heels and makeup, with fake boobs. People still think it's sexy but it's like that sexiness is everywhere, all the time. I understand that, but do you get what I'm saying about how that sex appeal is so standard and common that it seems strange for guys to flip out over it? It seems superfluous to comment on it at all? It's like, a guy would have to be really sheltered to get excited over pictures of her. Her in person, that's another matter, but another picture of a hot blonde bikini clad model...whoopdee doo. I don't think people are off-put by it, as I said that sounds as odd as someone going nuts over it. I just think it is becoming less effective. I see that it still works, I guess I'm just not a dude.

Oh hey, on a similar note as the WHR thing, I also read that higher contrast in features is biologically attractive too, so dark eyes, red lips, fair skin and black hair are more attractive than a woman with all features and makeup relatively in a close-range palatte.

There's a sort of hostility, a quickness to judge with people who are jealous. They take sniping little jabs at people, they're often indirect in their communications, they often taunt people for their hard work and celebrate their failures.

They look at, say, a woman who--underneath it all--they envy and they assume, because she's in good shape or beautiful, that she's an idiot; that she'll steal their boyfriends/husbands; that she's naturally in shape; that she bought her looks; that if she has professional success, she's sexed her way there; that life, for her, is easy & effortless.

And then a whole lot of those judging people, man, they gloat--they get a little gleam in their eyes--when people that they envy do fall upon hard times. As if those people somehow thought that they were impervious to failure.

Maybe people do those judging things to elevate themselves in some way. To continue with ^^^ example, if those judging people demonize someone who is beautiful or who is in shape or who is both, it justifies their own choices, their own circumstances. Usually it's pretty easy to spot people who do those things; they think they're slick or that they're being covert when actually, they're pretty transparent.

I don't know. It's odd.

edit: It's gorgeous out and I took a walk and realized that I forgot to say this: When I typed ^^^, I was responding to the first half of this thread. I didn't read all of the rest of it, I don't know how it evolved. You would think that by now, I'd learn to read all the way through a thread before posting a response in it. Miss Kentucky looks to me like your basic blonde porn actress. She's got pageant style, LA looks...she's built to that standard, I wouldn't say she's every American's ideal girl. How high are the ratings for Miss USA anyway? did any of you actually watch it? It aired on a friday night pretty much in the "dead zone" (since most people are watching the WB then, or cable). hey, enough with the skinny-hate, okay? Some people look like that and they like to be healthy and workout and avoid junk food. It doesn't mean they're starving themselves. A few steaks and donuts vs a couple of skipped meals; which is worse? I'd say the bad food is worse. Some guy saying a girl ought to do some situps - so she'd look the way he'd like her to look, is just as bad as saying she ought to gain weight. Cosmo's all health-crusader and then when a girl's on the skinny side she assumes she's unhealthy.

you really think she's all natural? i highly doubt it. and i didn't say she was an idiot. i made no judgements about her intelligence, or anyone's, did i? and when i said starving herself for a few hours before a competition, i meant something along the lines of what bodybuilders do in order to lose water weight and all that crap in the few precous hours before going onstage. granted, that's an assumption on my part, but i figured they probably do something similar so they can show their best tone and shape and whatnot onstage. and taunting people for their hard work? oh right, i'm really jealous of someone whose livelihood is based on how much time they spend on their looks.

i don't know why you keep going back the jealous argument, or why you can't believe me when i say i'm really not. maybe i'm supposed to be, but no matter how i try to convince myself, i just don't want to look like that. i wouldn't want that kind of attention, to be honest. i'm happy right where i am. i don't mind not being slammin' hot or whatever. it's taken me years to get here, but i really like what i look like...and think that there's a lot more in life more important than looks. i don't find her very attractive. then again, i don't have a penis, and i actually have really picky standards on what i think is attractive in a female. the conventional standards of what is sexy today don't appeal to me.

stop turning this into a personal attack like you always do. you guys are all reading way too deeply into what i've said. i don't think she's anything special. that's all. i'm done with this argument.

Anyway, I agree with nuzz for the most part. Also, I don't think that the girls on here aspire to look like a barbie. That life seems pretty vacant to me. Besides, it's not like this chick's gonna be super famous or anything. The old pageant people are clinging to a half-dead concept, trying to keep the dream alive, but there's too much work involved with pageants, it's way easier to get famous from a reality show.

yes. but the last one is on the game show network now and the australian one is big over there. but yes, very antiquated, boring and stuffy.

Well, she's no miss Universe. She may be #1 in the US but she'll never make it in outerspace. Leave that territory to Canadians.

It's not hurting you directly so why do you care? And yea it isn't illegal so why all the "pfff" at this and that. Not to mention the bathing suit portion of shows like that has been round since at least 1940's-1950's (just the style of bathing suit has changed). It's part of the show and part of the overal competition. It is a show to fine, in terms of this society, the ideal woman.

not necessarily, she just cant accept that her points are invalid because she's trying to stereotype everybody

yes, i think at least half the people in this thread have shown you that you are in fact wrong. it's just super annoying that you don't seem to accept that people can in fact be intelligent, and have dignity, and participate in pageants at the same time.

ok, so are you trying to prove to me that my friend isn't REALLY smart just because she's book smart? what the fuck were you trying to prove by saying that? second, all pageants are not "beauty contests," you using that term shows old fashioned 1950's ingorance, and you're essentially saying that girls only go on there to show off their bodies, which is bullshit. "neh neh neh that's like old reading playboy for the articles cliche blah" fuck you, you obviously have never been to a pageant before, 90% of the audience are family matters you dont have people sitting there jacking off. most girls (i'm not saying all, im sure there's plenty of bimbos in there too) don't even really care about the swimsuit part, I know it's my friends least favorite part of it and she refuses to wear a two piece. still's just so fucking IRRITATING how someone like you who is obviously very intelligent can make such blind, spiteful comments about people you don't know about. of course, me saying these things wont matter to you, because you're still going to spout ignorant-ass shit whenever a topic like this pops up, and you're always going to harbor ill will towards these girls. but whatever.

and fuck you for your snide comment jess. you're a real pal.

Her parent's choice. People don't see that this is no diffrent then anything in our entertainment world today. Also most of those shows help with confidence (at least those girls who enjoy the being there more then the losing). Some even consider it a sport (which I don't but since it is competition I guess that falls in that mold)
