Come on, it sucks, but if you shove a player in front of the ref it's a straight red. If you shoot a penalty before the ref blows his whistle then you have to retake the penalty. If you miss three penalties then you lose a shootout.

Condoleances mate, I was hoping England won.

i thought it was a shame...they've hardly looked like world beaters england but there was - forgive my cheesiness - a lot of heart in the performance.

ronaldo's a cunt, not least for that little wink he gave to the portugal bench afetr playing his part. i think it could well have been for the shove though, cos - and someone's mentioned this - the ref didn't react in a 'i'm gonna dish out a card' way until that.

owen hargreaves and the back four were where most of my english pride came from, and if this is gaz nev's last major tournament then it's nice he at least goes out with the armband. like him of loathe him, he's been fucking consistent for a good 10 years now.

oh well...onto euro 2008.

edit: oh, and lennon was bright. it wasn't a penalty though, to be fair it was a decent tackle on the replay. aside from the rooney red card which i think was kinda dubious the ref was actually okay.

You could see that clearly on the bbc. The ref didn't go for the carding until after the shove.

Hargreaves has been underrated for a long time, he's worked his ass off in germany without anyone really noticing. I'm happy that people have finally caught on :)

I'm really sad about England losing. England's always been my favourite team (after Germany, of course) and I just don't get this England-Germany- hate that's around now for 40 years.
I love the English and they were all great here in Cologne when they played against Sweden. England, you sure do know how to party!(y)
I think that if they had a better coach they would have won this year 'cause they had great players but didn't really know how to play as a team.

People in France were quite disaponted by the first games of the french team, but since the great victory on Spain, we knew that something was possible tonight....
Anf we get..the best game ever since...I dont know when. Zidane played maybe his best game tonight. The whole team plyed so well together, with a strong defence.
France was stronger than Brazil, and deserves totally this victory.

There's a big portuguese community in France, the next game should be interesting...But France is gonna win, come on, who can stop them now???

But you still don't get my point. Of course we have players that are diving. But did I say that it's ok when Germans do that? No! I said that I don't like it at all. And yesterday was a game with a lot of diving, which pissed me off.
And most of it came from Italy.
Like that scene where a foot was 1 ft. close to Totti's head (I think it was Totti, not too sure, though) and he needed at least 1 minute "to recover from that shock" by holding his face and rolling on the ground. That was just funny.
And there were many momnts like that.

Thats part of the modern game unfortunately, referee's shouldn't be stupid enough to get sucked in AND players shouldn't try and get opposing team members booked and sent off. I forget which match it was in but podolski patted the ref on the back in a "well done" gesture for sending someone off, what the fuck is all that about?? Just cheating bastards

When he first joined United I thought of him of a one trick pony with fancy hair.

He's learnt two tricks since but he does more damage than good in my opinion.

He has skill, he has pace, he knows his tricks, but from what I saw his efficiency over an entire game span is ridiculously low.

What some people forget is that he's still very young and I do believe that if he grows up a bit and stops diving around the place he might grow into a pretty damn decent player. I still wouldn't put him in my starting line up at the moment though.

The match was pretty exciting. The pressure was certainly on throughout the 120 minutes, and the penalty kicks, of course. France dominated the ball throughout the game, but Italy held their own with some potential goal shots, including one that went in, but was offsides.

"Argentina's Horacio Elizondo was selected to referee <<today's>> World Cup final between three-time champion Italy and 1998 winner France.

Elizondo, a 42-year-old physical education teacher, officiated in Portugal's quarter-final victory over England, when he sent off England striker Wayne Rooney for stepping on Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho.

The Argentine official also was the referee at the opening match on June 9, when host Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 in Munich.

Dario Garcia and Rodolfo Otero, also of Argentina, will work the sidelines for the match at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, FIFA general secretary Urs Linsi said on Thursday."

It will go down as an upset--the team captain of France's team deliberately headbutts an italian player square in the chest, and he went down cold. I can't help but wonder what it was all about. I wonder if we'll ever know. Ah well.

The whole game was boring. The only exciting part was Zidane's head butt. I laugh my ass at that. That was sweet zizou!!! That Materazzi is a fucking cunt anyway.

This was stupid. It broke my heart to see him go off of the pitch like that in his final game.

Plus you can't use the pressure card because it's not the first time that he did shit like this. He headbutted a guy in the champions league when he was still with juve which cost him the player of the year award and he kicked that saudi player in 98 which cost him a two game ban. He just snaps.

He's a man alright. A foul tempered man.

He has tainted his career with this and there is no way you can blame this on Materazzi. Zidane shouldn't have reacted. Period.

Usually they make the decision for the Golden Ball before the final, apart from last night when they made the decision at half-time in the final. Cannavaro didn't have a great first half, Zidane had a pretty good one, so they gave him the award.

Then he went mad. Which was very, very funny.
