By the Way: Only the 40 inch Plasma LC TV's offer the Picture in a Picture mode with the computer in the small corner box. And I was told to stay clear of Plasmas so I went with the Samsung

I got it at Performance Bicycle. it's the Scattante Americano, the store's brand. the tires kinda blow, but they'll do for now. I was looking for bare bones basic. it's a single speed because I never change my gears anyway, been riding that way since I was a kid. I did a lot of research and the americano got better reviews than any other single speed in my price range ($300-500), some of the reviews even said it rode better than their $2,000+ bikes. also, the geometry of it just looked right to me.

it's quiet as a mouse on account of no gears/derailleur. it's pretty darn fast, I rode it about 10 miles today and besides the saddle being awful, it was responsive and light, yet solid.

the only thing that was weird about it was the feeling that I could just go faster and faster if I wanted. on my old beater, I'd always get to the point where I'd pedal faster than the cranks would turn the wheels so I'd get that "omg, I'm going so fast my bike can't even keep up" feeling. I didn't even get close to a peak speed with the new bike.


anyway, it's pretty great. I stared at it for like 20 minutes straight earlier. :o

it's not so much the balls that get squashed. it's the chode. you pretty much sit on your chode. the good saddles have like a gel insert where the chode would reside.


if your seat post dosn't allow it to be tipped(there should be a bolt under the seat that clamps the rails on the saddle that should allow your to tip your seat) you can always get a new one. they're faily inexpensive. you have to make sure you get the right diameter. they usually mark the diameter that's needed on the post. just check the current post to see what diameter.

now if only I could find my allen wrenches. I loaned them to my roommate awhile back and I don't remember if she gave them back or if she did, where I put them after. I should just get a little jackknife kit of them to carry with me.

sarks, i'm not worrying. if turd doesn't rate 100 plus years of batavus engineering then i'm not going to sit here and convince him because he's obviously clueless to them. i know it's more substance than style. if i wanted something that just 'looked nice' i would have bought one of the dozens of dutch-style knock offs that are considerably cheaper and will fall apart. i didn't spend hundreds of bucks on something that will die after a couple of years. millions of dutch people can't be wrong and these bikes outlast their owners. it has all the benefits of their traditional bike plus modern souped up shit because i live in a place that is less flat than holland and i wanted a lighter frame. i could have got an entirely different bike for my money, yes. but i don't want to break land speed records. it's a different purpose.

he knows shit all about this bike (other than it 'looks nice' so ergo it must be crap) so he's not really in any position to comment :rolleyes: he'll carry on though.. proceed!

I disagree. as nastee said, it's a dutch style, and I think it looks pretty solid and put together.

I know a dude who's a bike mechanic and he rides a dutch style bike sometimes. people can ride on the handlebars, it's old tymey. it's built for work, not for speed.




oh, and sorry yetra. I forgot your bike gave him a boner. I was talking about dred's and mine which is a men's-style bike (easier to carry, simpler design, in my opinion).

Dudes, I'm dutch and I've had a couple of batavus bikes. They're awesome and sturdy. They arn't cheap (apparently overseas they're even more expensive), but they last for years and years.

Be careful with it though na§tee, make sure to always lock it up well. Over here pretty bikes like those get stolen a lot (they stole mine too. :mad:), that's why students always make their bikes look as shitty as possible in the brightest, ugliest colours you can imagine.

But yeah, batavus bikes are niiiice. (y)

hey, nobody needs to get worked up in here. it's just that buffalo plaid is on EVERYTHING right now. it's ruined. I like it, and I still like seeing it, but it's dunzo.
