Dunno about no Beer Bongs n all that, but here in the UK, it is customary for all visitors to these fine shores to have a YARD-OF-ALE in the first real pub they visit. Basically (in case you don't have these in the US) it is a beer glass a yard long. Full. With the object being to down it in the fastest time possible.

calliope is right, in italy german-like blonde beer is the most popular.
In the last 10 years several irish-styled pubs came up here and people begun to be oriented on different kinds like the white or the "weiss" one.
Personally I love the stout and can't drink a double malted one.

But with a pizza... oh yes, blonde only please!
