The Expendables

Story (n)
Action :D

Plot lack a looooooooooot of depth same with some characters but when I went to watch this flick I didnt care about the story at all instead I looked forward to action scenes and it delivered. I loved some those action scene and some are really memorable like Terry Crews blasting enemies with his AA12 was pretty awesome all over. Terry shooting in that scene reminded me of Demoman from Team Fortress 2. The knife throwing combat bits with Jason was cool to see. Its not often you see combat like that in movies. I think Jet Li could have been better with his fight moments. They should have givin it more extended fights. I think all the gun shooting parts of the movie where done so well. I dont really like how they handled the hand-to-hand fights. They busted a Batman Begins with choppy close-up action where it just leaves you trying to figure out who is punching who and what part of the body. I guess I just like the old-school Jackie Chan police stories (and other classic action movies) direction. I would say this close-up fight shots implemented in action movies these days are like what auto-tuner is to singing. Well, finally the movie was a lot of fun to watch. Thats all the nitpick I got.

truly awful. Dakota Fanning WOULD NOT STOP SCREAMING. I watched all the way to the end in the vain hope that she'd be horribly disembowelled by the aliens or Cruise himself. impudent son character was not much better. with the world ending all around him he insisted on being a worthless sack of shit with parental issues.

only their deaths could've saved this film.

more kids films.

The Lion King, never seen it before. The 4 year old handled the death scene remarkably well, she was more concerned with the plot, she couldnt get her round who inherited the throne and why scar was king rather than simbas dad got killed.

Toy Story 3 - again. I know that Pixar would never have done this but:

SPOILER ALERT JUST IN CASE

When they are all in the incinerator and holding hands, its done so well and is cinematically awesome that i would have totally accepted them all frying as the end. Now i appreciate that would have made millions of kids suicidal but it was really dramatic and well executed

The Last Samurai

This was on telly last night so I decided to give it a shot. I'm mildly fascinated by samurai/samurai films at the moment. I didn't expect much.

It started off very strongly, and for the first half / 2/3rds was pretty decent. The Ninja v Samurai scene was mega.

Sadly it went to complete shit at the end.

Its also a complete hodgepodge of history. Its not that its false, but that they amalgamated about 10 different people, from different periods into one story. They also made the Yanks the bad guys when apparently it was the French.

Still, Ninjas v Samurai.

Very over the top, funny, and sexy. Michelle Rodriguez keeps getting progressively hotter to me. I don't understand it but she does. Good job Danny Trejo.

The last DVD I watched was Batman Begins. Not quite as good as I remember it but finally someone did Batman well. The Dark Knight is even better and I think the third movie will deliver. Chris Nolan is King Midas.

Easily the strangest film i've seen since Inland Empire.

It's ok...not great. Very slow at times, at I didn't understand most of it, but alot of it is enjoyable in a dreamy sort of way.

American - The Bill Hicks Story. I have read a lot and there wasnt too much i wasnt aware of before but it was very well done and a lot better than just watching a load of talking heads. The "animation" style took some getting used to but i liked it and that and the rare footage added a lot to a story i already knew.

Exit Through the Gift Shop

It is streaming on Netflix so check it out. It features a filmmaker documenting graffitii artists when Banksy sees his work and decides his film is garbage and turns the camera the filmmaker who in turn becomes a graffiti artist. Who knows? Maybe both men are Banksy. It is funny and interesting.
Anyway, it is a very good documentary.

Gentleman Prefer Blondes and Black Swan

Gentleman Prefer Blondes was pretty fun to watch considering I've never bothered watching much Marylin Monroe. My favorite part though was Jane Russell's song with all the half naked men. Maybe it's because I've lived near San Francisco for a few years and attend drag shows a lot, but all I could think about how it would make an deliciously over the top drag show skit.

Black Swan was a trip. I liked it a lot but I don't want to say too much because it might spoil it. I want to see it again. (y)

Has anyone see True Grit? I am going to go see True Grit or The Fighter this afternoon.

I am leaning toward True Grit because it is the Coen Brothers and Marky Mark sometimes leaves me flat. I have heard Christian Bale is incredible in The Fighter but that is par for the course because he is always awesome. I will see both movies so I guess it doesn't matter.

^ Bale's a fucking fruitcake. I know what you mean about Marky Mark. His acting in that M Night Shammalammadingdong movie about the killer wind was horrible. He's a tough nut to crack. In some roles he's amazing and in others he's complete shit.

Whip It: Pretty good.

Fantastic Mr. Fox: Loved it. Nice bounce back. Wes is the man, but Darjeerling Limited sucked balls.

Bale is off his rocker but he can act. Sometimes Mark Wahlberg's monotone delivery gets on my nerves.

I have decided today that it is True Grit. I am a huge Coen brothers fan and even though this is supposedly a straight forward western I am there. Anyway, I am a man and a man should like westerns and only bathe occasionally dammit!

True Grit it was and I give it a thumbs (y) Great dialogue and cinematography. It was weird watching a Coen brother's film without the quirky themes but they did a fantastic job. Bridges was good as was the girl and Damon complimented the film with his character.

the Believer. a Ryan Gosling flick from 2001. not bad...but it was recommended to me because of American History X. American History X was way better.

Throw in ”Romper Stomper” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105275/) and you have the makings of a pretty scary box set...

”The Illusionist”... (http://www.sonyclassics.com/theillusionist/)probably the best movie, that I've caught, nominated in any category for an Oscar this year...fuck’n shameful that “Toy Story 3” be nominated for best picture and they pass on this piece of animation genius...sure it’s a downer in a way...but in the very best way...from the same director as ”The Triplets of Belleville” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286244/) and ”Paris, je t'aime” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401711/)...brilliant frenchy...

heh, but Kootenay dwellers are a whole 'nother sub-level of BC'er compared to me! Will try and check it out though!

Welcome to the Rileys (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183923/) Totally worth checking out, even Kristen Stewart managed to add something decent to it.

I saw "The Backwoods" and goddamn did Gary Oldman do a good job in this film. Also I am now addicted to this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56hiB4eTzBE) because of the film

Ordinary People (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081283/) All i thought the whole time is how similar Robin Williams portrayal of a therapist was to Judd Hirsch's own.

pretty fucking brilliant. slow start but the end is excellent and all the sci-fi homages are top. I was worried that because Edgar wright wasnt directing that some of the usual touches werent there but i was wrong.

Loved every minute. Well, apart from the ending. The Cohen brothers are such geniuses.... genii?

Jeff Bridges surpassing the dude as his best character, and Hailee Steinfeld astonishingly good.

Oh and the cinematography was brilliant too.

watched Scooby Doo movie with the kids before, some thoughts:

1) Rowan atkinson sold out massively didnt he?
2) Velma was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hot
3) Liked the fact they recognised that Scrappy Doo was biggest mistake anyone ever made in the universe
4) Isla Fisher doesnt look as fit with blonde hair
5) Its a pretty shit film

Very good. And very faithful to the book. Obviously, not as good as the novel, they had to cut a good bit out, but other wise very well made adaptation.

ugh, yeah, that movie sucks. It seemed like it was going to be so good! no dice!

I watched 13 Going on 30...heh. It's actually a pretty thoughtful movie, I enjoyed watching it.

I saw the Adjustment Bureau before that. It was pretty silly, and not very deep, but it was cute. I probably wouldn't watch it again, but I'd recommend it to my mother.
